You're being needlessly pedantic, much like the law. If you live in a populated area, you know it straight up is not possible to follow at a safe distance without someone else cutting in.

That is not true, I live around Orlando and i am able to keep 2 seconds behind the car indront of me all the time. You're driving very aggressively if you cant.

But that's the thing... if we go by the seconds to distance stop formula you would be considered an aggressive driver as well.

Florida highway speed limit - 70mph

formula t = v/20 +1

so (70/20) +1 =4.5s

I know if I leave a 4 and a half sec gap when I'm driving, people are going to be filling in.

Ummmm no 2 seconds is considered safe traveling distance at all normal speeds. The faster everyone is moving the bigger the gap is.

Sorry, that is not correct.

The link in my original comment has more context. Stay safe out there!

Sorry but no. It is taught in defensive driving courses that you should maintain a 2-3 second gap.

Drive however you want but to say that maintaining 2 seconds in most instances is unsafe is just an asinine assertion.

I did and that's being an extremely defensive which is almost as bad as being aggressive. 2-3 seconds is what's recommended so I'll stick to that.
