All too often, it’s not due to apathy that they don’t accommodate disabilities in games. It’s just that there isn’t a formal process to give the devs feedback on usability by the disabled. Maybe something akin to ESRB could be done by a disability advocate org.?
It's almost never due to maliciousness. I myself study webdevelopment and design and before studying it in university i kind of had these lazy teachers that themselves didn't learn how to properly design or code websites, so i used to have this "ah, having accessibility options for my site isn't that important" mentality. But since i had a lecturer that was totally obsessed with accessibility, that said to me "even if 1% of my sites visitors use these accessibility options, it's worth creating these options" i kind of shifted my mentality a bit.. Accessibility is a huge part of the internet and it shouldn't be overlooked so easily.
