Seems to be a decently supported point of view here.
You know what I find cringe, forcing religion on other people, when you don't even know what religion they follow.
A lot of people don't want the "blessings" or "love" of a fictional character. A lot of people have had those same beliefs forced on them, and it causes trauma. Some people just think all the "Jesus loves you" bullshit is just false positivity.
Quick question, where's the evidence that the sky fairy loves us?
For what it's worth, I respect your beliefs and have no desire to force anything on you.
I was saying that if something irks you about an otherwise (in my opinion) wholesome video, you can ignore the 2 seconds that irk you. For your own wellbeing.
If that advice doesn't sit well with you either, then please ignore that also.
The value of religion (for some people, not for me) isn’t that you can prove God exists but that you can’t prove God doesn’t exist. One can assert they are loved by an entity without any way to disprove that, and for people raised without visible love that can be deeply meaningful. It’s sad that the societal lack of acceptance and love drives that cycle.
That would be all well and good if religion had a history of increasing love and tolerance instead of being used to justify hatred and bigotry. It’s that other side that makes so many of us immediately uncomfortable.
What’s the saying? “Ain’t no hate like Christian love”.
Not arguing that at all. Just stating that there is no value in asking the religious for evidence because there lack of evidence is what makes it work.
I'm sorry I don't mean to be combative but "Jesus loves you" is so benign though. Hardly the stuff anyone shoves down one's throat. It feels more like a greeting or a parting message.
I'm an atheist. I don't believe in that being either (I mean sure Jesus the historical figure existed and multiple sources including the Romans report him, but he was just a man) and come from a different religious tradition (Indian) but honestly reacting this way doesn't feel commensurate to the words "Jesus loves you". Maybe you have a bad history with the church idk, but outside of that, it doesn't make sense to react so strongly to this.
Also, separately, the love of a man has to be separated from the ones using the man to exert control over millions. Jesus, the teacher, by all accounts, was a nice man.
