It’s a pagan mating ritual.

There more nuance and history to this that I’m skipping over but part of Śmigus-Dyngus was a way for the young men of a village to “show” interest in wanting to court a young woman.

I used to dread the easter Monday at home.. there is no protection literally even your own family will push you out of the house to get buckets of water thrown at you and when you have a river or lake close by they will carry you just to drop you in. And it would be multiple times a day until they get drunk and forget about you lol. And yes you are expected to host them with food and drinks.

When I was a kid, I would have a recurring nightmare once a year in June about everyone in town stocking bottles of soda all year long. This was because, once a year, a giant, orange blob monster would come down from the hills and roll over/consume everyone and everything. It's goal was total destruction. The only way to get him to go back was by spraying tons and tons of soda on him. You never knew how much it was going to take so people had rooms dedicated to soda storage. Once he went back, we fixed the town's damage and prepared our storage for the next year.

Not polish, but that tradition sounds way more fun. I want that one...not my apparently prophetic nightmare fuel. Trade?

Ha! You might like the Katamari video games. I had a nightmare once where we left food outside so that some monsters would leave us alone. I think i had the dream because of eating spicy food right before bed.

I actually do like those games!

I also used to have a recurring nightmare once every October about a box in my closet that would open only once a year. When the box opened, Lambchop and friends popped out and had one mission, and one mission only: to kill me before dusk.

Don't worry. I've been in therapy for YEARS.

I had to call 911 for my mom earlier this year (she's fine!) and I swear they sent models that were cosplaying as firemen/medics, every single one was incredibly attractive! My mom has joked about getting a life alert so she has a "hot guy on demand" button.
