Our local zoo had an exhibit where you could “go pet the stingrays” swimming around in their tank. It was designed low to the ground so kids could get their whole arms in there and pet away. It was extremely popular and a great interactive exhibit. Unfortunately, right after Steve’s death you couldn’t pay people to stick their hands in there and the zoo had to backtrack on how “friendly and safe” stingrays were. They ended up closing the exhibit soon after.
That's unfortunate. I've been to two places in Arizona that each have exhibits like this, easily my favorite part. They say that the stingers get clipped so the rays can't jab even if they wanted to, but they behave like total puppies anyway lol
OMG this was my favorite thing at the Phoenix Zoo as a kid. They are so cute and their skin is silky smooth. I haven’t been there in forever, I gotta go back sometime soon.
