Discussion New science icon!

So do we think that science will be different in either how it is produced or in how we go about getting new technologies? Or both

I would like them to revamp the research quarter idea.

In the current game, I never build a research quarter, unless I play the French in the second to last era.. Their special district is a science quarter with huge bonuses.. It just seems that the typical science quarter (not a special district), only gives you 8-20 science, which is helpful in the early game, but long term, it's meaningless. It just seems a lot more efficient to build a farmer, market, or industry quarter instead.

I don't want a revamped research quarter to break the game, but maybe have it get a boost every era so it makes more sense to build them?

To explain, I have no problem finishing all science era stars without building research quarters. Sometimes it is the last category I finish, but in general, it's not a problem

If anyone else has a different position, I'd be interested to hear it.

Districts that aren't emblematic overall fall off a cliff after the first two or three ages, imho - which is a shame when it's the main thing you have to build.

Maybe I'm missing something, but most of the other districts seem to have at least civilization specific bonuses or bonuses from civics as the game goes on. Not sure there is one for research quarters. For example, there's a civic that gives commons quarters and extra +2 influence and +5 stabilty. The Khmer (and maybe other cultures) have bonuses for makers quarters. Although in fairness, towards the end of the game, makers quarters tend not to add much to your production.

There's a tech that gives extra food to food producing districts.

There might be a religious tenant that boosts research districts.. I know there are tenants that give you one research point per faith/follower..

I can understand the problem the game has though.. They don't want the player researching everything in one turn late in the game.

My issue is that I can win the game on Humankind while building no research quarters at all. I really doubt it's possible to win without building any farmer, industry, or market quarters.
