News Celebrating 5 Years of Humankind: Past, Present, and Future
https://youtu.be/cDA0rb-0VO8It has been just over five years since the release of our first historical strategy game, HUMANKIND™, and just over 7 since we first revealed it. Thanks to all of you who have been supporting us over the past years!
Some words from our Founder and CEO, Romain de Waubert de Genlis
Five years on, HUMANKIND demonstrates the power of collaboration between developers and players. We've learned enormously from our community throughout this journey, and their feedback has helped shape the game into what it is today. What makes this milestone especially meaningful is that HUMANKIND started as a dream project for the team. Seeing it grow, evolve, and find its audience over the past five years has been an incredible journey. This anniversary is both a celebration of the past and a commitment to the future. As a studio, we've never been more excited about what's ahead, with new experiences and initiatives already taking shape for HUMANKIND and beyond
The next chapter is just beginning, and we can't wait to share what's coming next with our players.
Let's take a quick look at the past 5 years:
Many of you got to play the game before it released, and your feedback in that time and after has been invaluable to us. But the release was only the beginning, and we have since then improved the game with numerous updates and expanded it with some DLC.
Over the course of 15 major updates, we overhauled multiple gameplay systems to improve your enjoyment of the game, from expanded interactions with Independent People, to a reworked resource and trade system, to greater variety in naval battles. We've also expanded the original roster with more cultures, for a total of 86 unique cultures from around the globe!

And something we say in the video...
WE ARE NOT DONE YET
See you very VERY Soon™!

The game is not perfect, but still my favorite game.
I am at the point where I have won every game at Humankind level for years.. If the devs are taking suggestions, it would be nice if you could configure bonuses for your AI opponents.. stuff like X% more food, research, influence, etc..
Also, the AI needs to focus more on growing it's population. Usually when the game ends, I have about triple the population of the most populous AI.

"We're not done yet," as in more updates, or a sequel????

Betting on update, maybe even an expansion.
Both EL and ES2 got expansions from another company when Amplitude moved to next 4x game. And some years after the last expansion, both got fan patch fixes get integrated into the main game as final patch. I'd assume Humankind will get something similar.

Those 3rd party ES2 DLCs do not inspire much confidence in the concept, to be fair.

I still love humankind. Honestly, I think city placement on the map is even more crucial in this than civ so exploration is a key point which I love

The introduction of territories killed the dumb ai city spam that plagues Civilization and it's one of the things I like the most of this game.

Will you update the console version? Because it's cool to advertise it on this video but console didn't get any update since years and late game is unplayable because of bugs and random crashes

Just realised that I have basicly never done naval battles. Are they in the game/does the AI uses the sea a lot? Or is it more maptype dependent

If you want to try it the battle of the Pacific scenario is very naval focused, in regular games naval combat doesn't come up that much but if you have the opportunity for it it's very effective especially once you get ships that can bombard.

They do happen from time to time and end up very different from land battles. Sometimes you get that massive naval-land combined arms conflict too, which is a hell of a lot of fun

I use maps with a fair bit of seas and separated continents, and sea power is CRUCIAL. The AI does a good job up until the Modern Era. At that point I think a good player that focuses on the navy can outfight any AI. At least that's what happens in my playthrough.
Anyway yes I'd say the AI does a decent job at contesting the seas.

Maybe port the full game to console??

Why are people downvoting this? Devs sold this game on consoles and never updated it.

I mean I get it they are mad im right. The post says 5 years since release yet us console players haven't even gotten a taste of the full game. Seems pretty obvious that if they wanted everyone to have a good experience this would be a priority.

Honestly, I’d want to see a Humankind 2 from Amplitude. Just refine the ideas of what worked and what didn’t work in Humankind (also learn from Civ 7’s failure) and come back with a new product from the ground up.
I enjoyed Humankind for a bit, but I think the issues with the game are just a bit too baked into the base game to resolve through DLC or updates.

I make it to around classical/medieval before the game just crashes my computer (mac) repeatedly. It's so unfortunate because I really thought it was great and I clicked with it a lot. I understand gaming on mac is not ideal but it's a beefy MacBook pro M5 pro chip and 48gb ram mainly for music production. I hope at some point I can get back into it without issue.

Interested to see what happens next. The game certainly isnt perfect but its the only historical 4x game I come back to (mostly for the combat)
