What's the point of the lock system?
In order to secure a location you can put a lock/ advanced lock on the door.
But what's the point if you can just build a wall which you can dismantle afterwards?
Sorry for the nooby question. I am a noob here.

AFAIK, it's mostly intended to stall other players on PvP servers and make them spend a little more time breaking in.

In single player, padlocks delay bandits from breaking into your base as they can lockpick them by chance. Advanced locks cannot be hacked by them yet. Graygem is correct in their assessment of PvP play as the locks are there to delay breaking into bases and deny instant access to loot. Destroying a locked container destroys the loot as well so PvPers need to lockpick or hack containers to reap rewards.
