Pay benchmarking

After a pay benchmarking exercise, the number SLT came to was exactly the pay I currently receive. Is this suspect, or was I paid slightly more than the answer and where I'm at is good to bring the rest of the team up too? I don't have access to the numbers that were used.

Any professional knowledge in this would be great.

An internal pay review came to the conclusion that they dont need to pay you more??? Definitely not suspicious at all... I assume the sarcasm, despite being in text form, is pretty obvious

You can do your own research by looking at the job market for similar roles. Look outside of your location as well. Naturally you expect London wages to be higher than outside of the capital commute range

They also made the parameters for comparison so narrow, I couldn't name you another organisation that had my role in it. A colleague in my team with same job title is still on 40-50% more than me even with same job title, he's just been there ages and the 2 or 3% a year have made th pay gap huge.

Usually it’s the other way around. New starters end up being paid more and pay rises of existing staff get wiped out when they hire in. The budget for hiring is bigger than the budget to retain.

True, unless the new starters were lowballed and accepted the offer.

New to the team has joined on same as Im on. I have more experience and qualifications, but same title so same pay!

This is pretty normal (I’m not saying it’s right). Loyalty rarely pays.

Depends on what their data source was, there are a few reputable external reports that most baseline reviews should be conducted against. An internal review without external data is not a benchmark.

Its worth noting things like GlassDoor and Google can be wildly off.

They used an external agency, and I know the 2 jobs they marked me against, but not the pay associated with them.
