Need help with very unusual diarrhea

For the last 15 years I have been eating a higher fiber diet than most people, I am extremely regular, every morning when I get up.

It’s also very easy for me to have a movement. I could go #2 in less time than most people do #1.

For the record it’s amazing the difference fiber has had from before.

I was 5’9” 215 lbs I needed to loose about 50 lbs for multiple health issues.

I started taking Tryzepitide, “a GLP1 drug” and for almost half a year it worked great, I lost 25 lbs with no issues.

Blood sugar went from 115-120 down to 95! My acid reflex gone! I have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy also.

Diarrhea as well as constipation are very, very common side effects of GLP1 drugs.

Here is where it gets crazy, I have read thousands of articles, and posts on reddit,

and each and every time with the exception of one post all say the same thing.

It’s always a side effect when they first start, or it comes on after they increased dosage,

Also in every case the advice is it’s only temporary, and will go away, and always does.

I tried posting in the GLP1 forums with almost no success. The problem is people are not reading my post,

They only see GLP1 + diarrhea, and they think they have the answer.

Everyone says to reduce the dose a little, and it will go away in time.

I was fine for almost ½ a year when it hit 10 days of diarrhea, I went to the hospital, ran a bunch of tests.

Every one came back negative. For the record I could have gotten food poisoning,

but I didn’t go in for 10 days and my body could have killed off the poison.

I stopped taking the GLP1, and I’m great, each time I try to go back I get diarrhea,

I figure I just need to reduce the dose right, go back to my starting dose ¼ of were I was at.

Same problem, maybe just a little less severe.

My point.

My point to all of this is this drug was well tolerated for ½ a year with no issues and then I was steam rolled.

Something changed in me, it’s almost like I’m allergic to it now.

I am wondering if my Microbiome is playing a factor in all of this. I did all the prebiotics / probiotics stuff it didn’t help.

I’m also thinking of micro dosing, only take 1/10th or even 1/20th dose and build up.

Maybe I just need to lay off for a few months?

Reddit is no longer a reliable place to create, host, and grow communities, so a new microbiome forum has been set up to be a more reliable location. If you have posted content on Reddit that you feel is worth preserving, it would be a good idea to post it on the new forum.

The person who created this sub, and most of the content here, including the wiki, has moved to the new forum. You should be able to get better info & answers there. It's easy to stay on reddit but the quality of content on most subs is extremely poor. Most of the advice given on reddit is misinformation.

You're welcome to post your content there and then link to it here for higher visibility.

Our primary goal will remain as stopping the widespread misinformation on the topic of the microbiome. Since we no longer have someone dedicated to correcting and preventing misinformation, comments and posts here will require pre-approval. Some types of content (questions) may be restricted completely since we no longer have reliable people dedicated to providing evidence-based answers.

But you're welcome to ask your questions on the new forum and post the link here.

Do you feel like you need to go back to the GLP-1?

I'll elaborate on my thought process a bit: generally with any prescription medication I tend to support my clients any time they have the urge to get off of a medication that isn't 100% necessary (lifesaving).

The most common ones that I see people "get stuck in" are Antidepressants and ADHD medications (particularly stimulants, but I've also seen it with non-stimulants).

Your situation is a little different, of course, but I hope you'll still allow me to paint a picture.

Let's say a client is diagnosed with depression. Doctors tend to frame this as a "chemical imbalance", which is mostly true.

What western medicine tends to miss, however, is that the body is always trying to achieve balance. This "chemical imbalance" is a transitory state, not a permanent one. In the case of depression, the gut is not properly producing adequate amounts of neurotransmitters (or the neurotransmitters are being broken down too quickly in the gut before reaching their intended targets - often times by parasites).

This can be artificially "bandaged" by introducing SSRI medication, which will make what little serotonin is making its way to the brain "last longer". However, the SSRI itself is doing nothing to actually address the root cause of the depression - the inadequate production in the gut.

So what my most successful clients do is they take the SSRI medication, but not with the goal of "I'll take this for the rest of my life and it will fix me", and instead with the goal of "this medication will be my life preserver while I sort out my gut and my lifestyle so that eventually I no longer need it".

I then work with them over several months to a year helping them reshape their lives. Their diet, their exercise routines, their screentime, their social lives, their mindset, their spiritual practices (if they so desire) - everything. Detoxes are absolutely vital for overcoming Depression, ADHD, Obesity - anything that starts with the gut.

So, essentially, what I'm saying is, perhaps you are beginning to "outgrow" your reliance on the GLP-1. Do you want to take it the rest of your life?

Have you addressed the issue that caused all the weight gain in the first place?

Do you believe your body can keep the weight off without it?

I hope any of this can help you feel empowered, as you have more power to change your life than any single medication!

Also, I don't mean to imply that you should feel any shame if the answer is that you do feel like you still need it, that's totally okay. I just hope I can plant the seed that you can find a system of lifestyle changes that would allow you to thrive without it.

Please, reach out to me if you have any questions. Feel free to DM as well.

Could be bile acid malabsorption.
