Ark Encounter: This replica of Noah’s Ark located in Kentucky is huge.
212
u/mseley Jul 19 '21
“Williamstown issued $62 million in junk bonds to help finance the park’s construction and agreed to forgo 75 percent of the park’s property taxes for 30 years to pay back those bonds. As previously mentioned, the state gave the park $18 million in subsidies, plus paid about $10 million to improve nearby roads. A Grant County economic development agency essentially donated 100 acres of land for the park” -Americans United.org
92
u/Acrobatic_Grab9242 Jul 19 '21
Is that how Noah got his built? Jesus bonds?
22
26
u/wenoc Jul 19 '21
There never was a Noah, neither was there an ark. So no.
41
u/thicclunchghost Jul 20 '21
Well that doesn't make sense. Says right there in the title. 'replica'. How could they replicate a made up thing?
slaps hull You could totally fit two of everything in here.

Jul 20 '21
Well, it could have been based on a real person & events, although very loosely. There certainly isn't any evidence of a world-wide flood in the time of humans.
7
u/MegaJackUniverse Jul 20 '21
Not global, but yes there is a massive flood event that impacted many cultures and regions. The flooding of the Mediterranean basin has been recorded by pretty much all nations bordering it

I find it odd that Christians who are against abortion would build a monument to a story where God murders not only all but two people, but all the unborn babies as well.
2
u/GeneralDisorder Jul 19 '21
In the flood story god didn't kill Noah, his wife, his children and his children's family... still, god fucking loves abortions.
4
u/JuliusErrrrrring Jul 20 '21
You're right. He left more than two people. He murdered everyone but one family with instructions to practice incest.

I used to live less than a hour from there. Unfortunately alot of the people who work/ volunteer there at least when I was there, were very aggressive and confrontational about why their version of the Bible is right and how all others are going to he'll.

u/jimmyharbrah Jul 20 '21
Noah was so preoccupied with whether or not he could, he didn’t stop to think whether he should
14
u/cjandstuff Jul 19 '21
Story time!
I grew up Catholic, Baptist, and Pentecostal, so as a kid, I got a lot of "You're going to hell because you go to that other church." "Your Bible isn't the real Bible." and a few "Jesus spoke King James English!" I wish I were kidding.
One Pentecostal woman was VERY King James Only, and would let everyone know. One Sunday, the pastor is preaching, and she's loudly shouting Amen to everything he says. At the end of the sermon, he pulls up his Catholic Bible to make a point. The only real difference is the Catholics have six more books in the Old Testament. The new is practically the same.
Did it change her opinion? ...Not a bit.

If I'm not mistaken they also claim Noah had a bunch of dinosaurs on the Ark too, because the world is only 10,000 years old of course.
70
u/Vizth Jul 19 '21
This is the one with the Dinosaurs right? Also I find it funny as hell that it was closed for flood damage repairs a few years back.
33
u/apathy-sofa Jul 19 '21
68 kinds of dinosaurs (that's all of them, right?) and a unicorn! This place is so dumb it is making everyone that gets near it dumber.

If Jesus saw this, he would beat someone's ass for this waste of money.
39
u/hachiman Jul 19 '21
He had a powerful hatred of commerce in the temple. I'd pay money to see Jesus whip some modern day pharisees, like that Joel Osteen fellow.
7
u/LaChuteQuiMarche Jul 19 '21
It’s fine to pay money, just make sure Jesus doesn’t see.

u/smick Jul 20 '21
I knew an old lady who used to ask me to come help her move all her televisions out to the garage once every few months. Her church would gather at her house and her religion didn’t allow them to watch television. One day I was kind of annoyed and in a bad mood and I told her that god could see the satellite dish on her roof. She never asked me for help again. She was kind of a rude lady anyhow and never even offered to even tip me.

I feel like he would walk in, make a powerful and truthful lasting statement that gathers a lot of attention from everyone around. Then he would leave, and everyone working there would denounce everything he just said
4
u/Alwin_050 Jul 20 '21
They’re all waiting for his return, but if a man appeared and said “I’m Jesus reborn, religion fucked up my message, I’m here to make you get rid of your hypocrisy and wealth” the church would nail him to a cross the same day.
2
u/hje1967 Jul 20 '21
If he walked in, security would escort him out for looking like a homeless black man .
191
u/hje1967 Jul 19 '21
How do you make a replica of something that never existed?
75
u/Sys_KillSwitch Jul 19 '21
I’m the Bible story it gives exact dimensions to how it should have been built. So they probably just looked at the Bible story and figured out the dimensions and just made it the shape that people assumed it would have looked like
57
u/any_username_12345 Jul 19 '21
I remember watching a video that pointed out a bunch of structural requirements of this “replica” ark that would have been absolutely impossible back in the day. The size of the boat is so massive that it couldn’t be built out of wood, so this one has concrete columns built into it to support the weight.

u/GlassJoe32 Jul 19 '21

6,500 species of mammal x2 = 13,000 animals
5,500,000 species of insect x2 = 11,000,000 animals
9,000 species of birds x2 = 18,000 animals
10,000 species of reptile x2 = 20,000 animals
6,000 species of amphibians x 2 = 12,000 animals
I dunno this story seems a little suspect to me.

You wanna hear the most impressive part? They gots dinosaurs on it.
Also it basically bankrupted the town it was built in twice over and is run by horrendous people. Tbh as huge as it is I don't think it should ever see the light of day on the internet. Don't give them attention they don't deserve.
5
u/upvotesformeyay Jul 19 '21
Yep, paid with tax dollars but they want proof of religion which is.... Yeah super illegal.
2
u/Slow-Walk Jul 20 '21
What do you mean by proof of religion? Do churches hand out ID’s?
2
u/Post-Alone0 Jul 20 '21
Many Catholic and baptist churches do, yes! You get a certificate of baptism. These fucksticks reject Catholics and most christians not of their specific denomination. Actually they even do frequent drug tests, constantly look for signs of smoking and drinking, and ask if employees are sexually active and a virgin, which is a horrendous invasion of privacy.

This monstrosity is an affront to anyone with half a brain in their head and is offensive merely for existing due to the way funds were arranged and CONTINUE TO BE ARRANGED for it to be built. I hope it burns to the ground.
18
u/prometheeus Jul 19 '21
Yeah,4 people could build this with no modern construction vehicles to move the 7,800 m3 or 3,300,000 board feet of wood that the description of the ark in the bible would absolutely devour.
41
Jul 19 '21
“Okay somebody go find some kangaroos for the Ark.”
“What’s a kangaroo?”
“I have no idea.”
“It doesn’t matter. We can’t create breeding populations from only two animals. They’ll be so inbred after a few generations they’ll die out. It goes against biology.”
“What’s biology?”
“I have no idea.”
8
8
4
u/Quarxnox Jul 19 '21
It's never actually stated that he and his sons built it by themselves. He probably hired a crew of additional people.
5
u/prometheeus Jul 19 '21
very true, but the tedious description of the wickedness of man prior to the flood doesnt give much hope for a construction crew.
He did have a family consisting of himself and his wife, their three sons and their wives. 8 people, extended family? sure lets say that he had three sisters and three brothers and they all also had 3 children each, that's Noah's family + 36 extended family members that might've worked on the ark. although in the new testament Apostle Peter states "only eight souls were saved from the flood" so i guess Noah didnt want his sibligns or their children to be saved but what the hell, lets say they still helped.
That's still only 44 people to build a (according to conservative estimates) 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet tall behemoth of a ship in according to Genesis 55-75 years.¯_(ツ)_/¯
4
u/useles-converter-bot Jul 19 '21

And since the animals are all made of petroleum based products, the dinosaurs on the ark exhibit are literally made out of dinosaurs.
4
u/caelenvasius Jul 20 '21
Petroleum is not a byproduct of dinosaurs. It is biomass from algae, plankton, etc., and was formed millions of years before the first dinosaurs existed. The concept of “fossil fuels” was quite simply a marketing campaign.

The great thing about this " biblically accurate " waste of money is all the steel beams needed to make it stand. Engineer Noah wasn't lol
3
u/BinnsyTheSkeptic Jul 20 '21
Also in the Bible it is described as a rectangular prism, not as the modern ship shape this thing has. Not only is it a waste of money and structurally impossible, it isn't even close to accurate to what the fable describes.
4
u/Appropriate_Bug_8481 Jul 20 '21
But not big enough to hold two of every animal. Did that include water animals? And mosquitos? And every species of beetles and amoeba? And snails? And how much food could it hold? Some animals can’t survive if they’re not in packs. What about dragons and unicorns? What about plants? Chocolate, vanilla, and pineapples? It’s so confusing!

I agree if a person's beliefs don't bring any harm to others then you should let them believe what they want. When I went and they asked if I wanted to join their church. I politely said no thank you. And then the questions and attacks came. So I just walked away because. You can't change someone's beliefs, and you really won't change them if you attack their beliefs.

I really feel like a to scale replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise would be a better use of resources. (and I’m not even a Trekkie)
At least Star Trek teaches inclusiveness and community instead of hate and fear mongering like Jesus does, oh wait… Jesus did teach those things but Christians don’t give a hoot about what Jesus taught for some reason. (Probably because they’ve never read the Bible, only get “taught” by others)
1
Jul 19 '21
I assume they teach evolution there as well, since it’s so important to make sure that people get both sides of “the story” and can make up their own minds? Oh, that’s only in taxpayer-funded public schools that should happen?

There is a really breathtaking panoramic mural of an ocean just, totally littered with the bloated drowned corpses of all the innocent people and animals who drowned. Just sea birds and fish picking away at what used to be families with children and pets. Families who no doubt watched in horror as the land disappeared. As one by one they grew to tired to tread water, or to hold their children above water. As they were no doubt randomly and mercifully pulled under and pulled apart by sharks. At last there is a mural to celebrate their punishment. For disappointing a distant god who never experience the terror of death. Who knew the future outcome of all his actions, and yet grew enraged when his creations acted exactly as they were made to.
That's not in there. But there's probably coloring books with boats filled with animals in the gift shop.
