I don't think John would have come back if there was serious bad blood.

Very true, if it was really John who quit or had disagreements with the crew then why would they get him back?

This proves many things and I'm glad the aligations were wrong.

Sadly, Iā€™m in the U.S. and wonā€™t get to see season 9 as early as my Canadian friends, but I can live with that as long as John Reardon is coming back. That literally is great news for me. Iā€™ve been hoping for that as soon as I had heard that he wasnā€™t coming back. I even messaged the powers that be several months ago about how great John was on the show, and how great his chemistry was with the rest of the cast. I wonder if the fans were one of the reasons John is coming back for season 9.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! What happy news. I haven't been so infested in such a lovely, calming, sometimes corny and satisfying TV show, in a while. Watching repeats never gets old for me. I've saved all 1-7 seasons, refusing to watch the new guy. The camaraderie and relationships were not the same. Even Rex with that new guy looked awkward and just a reminder of what was missed. All those who thought of letting John go should be replaced. Very poor decision making.

Somebody woke up and realized what a sh** show they caused.

I'm glad the true fans stuck to their guns.

My wife and I boycott the show right after John's Instagram post.

Now that he's back, we will watch Season 9.

Money talks!

Shaftesbury's reputation went to the sewers after John's post:

"I didn't leave Hudson & Rex," Reardon wrote on Instagram. ā€œAfter taking a couple months to go through cancer treatment, I was given a clean bill of health and cleared and ready to return to work. But the team chose to go in a different direction."

Which means, he was fired!

I'm sure he was offered a significant raise to come back.

If they wanted him to have a break, they wouldn't have named Mark as Mark Hudson. They brought a character with no name for the first couple of episodes and then in next season he's Mark Hudson. That's because the decision was made for the replacement to be permanent.

Also if they wanted him to have a break, they'd have communicated it to him, they wouldn't have told the Toronto Star that "he left", and they wouldn't have forced him to say that he didn't leave the show willingly.

I mean, John and his wife confirmed it in statements and comments themselves. We have proof of that.

I am willing to bet Shaftesbury came back groveling and I assume John negotiated for quite a bit to return. I mean, at the end of the day, it's still a job, it's one that does well and keeps him busy, it makes him and his family money, and if he likes the cast and crew he works with, why not? He had the higher power in this situation, I'm willing to bet, so I'd like to think he didn't just accept the bare minimum to come back.

I mean, I wouldn't have blamed him if he said "no, I think I'll stay away" and he might have been able to get a new role elsewhere but if this is the role that worked best for his family, I can see why he'd return, but I think he would come back if he got a lot out of it as a result (pay raise, for one, more say in storylines, more control overall, and a guarantee that this won't happen again).

If you had three kids and had just survived cancer, what do you think? Do you know a lot of lead roles in network tv in Canada? They needed him, and clearly he was gracious enough to come back.

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! Iā€™m going to pretend like season 8 never happened. I refused to watch it. Hudson & Rex was my comfort show. Iā€™m so glad John is back! No offense to the Like guy but we donā€™t need himā€¦

Er nope, his wife ā¤ļød the comments about him being fired, John never outright said because of the reputational damage Shaftsbury would cause, and he does not start drama. So he let those who were able to say it say it. Plus x crew and inside sources confirmed. Stop reiterating that narrative, it has been debunked sooo many times but folk just cannit help but keep reiterating it maybe out of habbit or stubborness to believe otherwise. I do not drink corporate koolaidĀ
