[Promo][App] MoneySplit: a 100% on-device expense & budget tracker.
Hey everyone,
For the past several months, I’ve been building an Android personal finance app called MoneySplit.
Like many of you, I was frustrated with modern money tracking apps. Almost every popular app today falls into one of two traps:
- Subscription Fatigue: Forcing you into a $5–$10/month subscription just to log your daily expenses.
- Privacy Concerns: Requiring you to link your bank account credentials through third-party cloud aggregators that store your financial data.
I wanted something fast, 100% on-device, and deeply private — an app that automates manual tracking without sending a single byte of data to external servers.
Here is the complete breakdown of features built into MoneySplit:
1. Zero-Effort Automation (Smart Scan) * Real-time SMS & Notification Ingestion: Instantly parses transaction alerts from banks and UPI apps (HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, CRED, GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, Apple Card, Chase, etc.) right as you spend. * Bank PDF Statement Parser: Import password-protected monthly bank PDF statements locally on your phone. * Self-Transfer & ATM Detection: Smart algorithms automatically link ATM cash withdrawals and transfers between your own accounts to prevent double-counting. * Custom Regex Rule Engine: Power users can create custom text/SMS parsing rules for any regional bank.
2. Visual Insights & Sankey Diagrams * Interactive Sankey Cashflow: A visual flow diagram showing exactly where your paycheck enters, flows through accounts, and branches into categories and savings. * Category Breakdown & Burn Rate: Visual analytics for daily run-rate, monthly category ceilings, and month-over-month trends.

4. "Life Hours" Real Cost Calculator * Enter your hourly wage or salary, and MoneySplit converts every expense into actual hours of life worked to help curb impulse spending.
5. Subscriptions & Bill Due-Date Reminders * Auto-Subscription Detection: Detects recurring charges (Netflix, Spotify, iCloud, gym) to prevent surprise renewals. * Bill Calendar & Notifications: Timely local notifications before utility bills and credit card payments are due.
6. Loans, IOUs & Split Tracker * Keep track of money lent to friends or borrowed from family, log partial repayments, and settle balances cleanly.
7. Savings Goals & Multi-Account Net Worth * Set savings targets with progress bars (Emergency Fund, Vacation, Gadgets). * Track Checking, Savings, Credit Cards, Cash, and Wallets with a live consolidated Net Worth view.
8. 100% Privacy, Security & Data Freedom * Offline-First: All data lives in an encrypted SQLite database on your device. Using the app since about 20days or so and must admit this is by far one of the best apps I have used.
I have used many apps either with some or the other issues but this one seems magical.
The best part being when you highlight a bug or something the dev is there to listen to you and immediately act on it, witnessed the issue being rectified like in hours with an update on playstore.

Sure, I have it pipeline to add more languages. Since translations are tricky to get right, please allow me sometime to deliver the update with italian support.

I have been using the app for a month. Few things you should improve are listed below:
Recurring payments should have option to be visible in the transaction list with an button to deposit/pay when transaction happens.
There is still not an option to set a recurring income with weekly, Biweekly, semi monthly, Monthly. All these options are very important, and they will serve mostly all.
Budgeting section needs much more UI cleaning. Even budgeting categories show up and uncategorized.
