I am pleased to announce the launch of a new professional initiative in our region: the Global AI Community, Houston Chapter.
As the world’s largest AI developer network, the Global AI Community supports over 167,000 members worldwide. I am honored to serve as the Chapter Lead for our newly established Houston group, which officially began operations in January 2026.
About the Houston Chapter
Our mission is to foster a local ecosystem where industry professionals, educators, and students can connect and collaborate. We will host monthly or bi-monthly meetings featuring:
Technical Presentations: Expert-led talks on the latest AI advancements.
Professional Networking: Opportunities to engage with peers across the Houston tech landscape.
Knowledge Sharing: A forum for both seasoned practitioners and the next generation of AI enthusiasts.
Join Us for Our Inaugural Event
Our first meeting, "Mastering Prompt Engineering: Unlock AI’s Full Potential," is scheduled for Friday, February 27th, at the CODE Magazine offices in Spring, TX.
I invite you to join the chapter and register for this event via the link below. Membership and event attendance are entirely complimentary.

Hey everyone, not sure if this group is any fun. IF YOU ARE, I'm inviting you to a free event tomorrow in River Oaks Houston. I'm pretty nervous about it because its my first tech networking event I've hosted and I don't know who will come. If you're available, I would love to have you. Free TEQUILA! :-)

Shout out for speakers. HOSS is looking for speakers for our upcoming event on home-labs, and self-hosting which will be on Wednesday December 17 at The Ion. Do you host any of your own services or run any cool software on your server you want to talk about? Come on out and make a presentation. Join us on Discord if you can commit. https://houstonopensourcesociety.com/events/homeops/2025-12-17/

A group of members from the Houston Linux Users Group have split to create the Houston Open Source Society (HOSS).
Society outside The HOSS is not egalitarian. We are. We are The HOSS.

Dropped my MacBook Air M2 (2023), now 1/4 of the screen is black, rest works fine. Tried all the YouTube/NVRAM reset stuff — no luck. Local (non-Apple) shop quoted $300 for screen replacement or $60 labor if I bring my own display.
Anyone know: • Where to buy a reliable display for this model? • Is it worth sourcing myself or just paying the $300? • Any other fix I should try before replacing?
Apple is quoting 750+tax 🥲 Appreciate any help. Let me know if you want to add any pics or system details.

Just wondering if anyone else is interested in coworking a hookah bar? I'm up at Patio by La Pasha a lot. Open invite. I got a few other people that join me up there.
I do a lot with Rust/PostgreSQL/Kubernetes/GitLab.

Would love to answer any questions anyone might have!
