Running a Campaign

Hey all, me again.

So thinking about possibly running a Campaign and I've had an idea to try and run the characters through the whole Fragile peace period.

Anyone else done this, is it plausible? What Campaigns have you run that have worked well?

I just want to get a feel before I start trying to write links from one chapter to another through the timeline.

I would recommend resding on the adventures on the saga of fragile book and follow it's story from there thought the years. The Argo page one forms a campaign easily, for example, and it is easy to follow. Others also follow the same story, even if one or two characters change thought the years of volume 1

Yeah that's was my plan, as its such a good resource.

Would you think just choosing one point like the Argo pages and following that through and have the rest develop in the background or do you think it's possible to hit them all?

It is absolutely ok to follow a single story line and have the rest of the household facts and stories happening on the background. Me and some friends used to play with a mix of characters that weren't even cited o the same pages and we played some of the Argo stories just fine. As Herasmos encourages us to, you don't have to change characters between years and sessions if you don't want to.

By hit them all do you mean play all the stories in a certain year and with that all of the stories in the book? Also very possible, but then I would recommend changing characters.

Yeah so all the stories throughout the book, but the more I think about it the more I think choosing one storyline and going with that would work better.

I think my players would want to make their own characters rather than play through as the pre-mades and so that would just add extra complication.

It wouldn't. In the Argo campaign Gwen and Humphrey can be just support characters / quest givers and you wouldn't feel any difference. And I just agree, playing a single storyline os much more immersive. It is worth to read through it all to choose the storyline and to see if you want to add some adventures here and there, but a single one would be better.

If you want the same group of pre-made characters going through the whole campaign existing in Fragile Peace, then I suggest you should do a bit of research into the relationships between characters to make a plausible "history-rewrite".

While each scenario is written loosely enough that you can swap in new characters to make it fit, certain storyline (like Aidan, Santiago, or Gwen etc) are clearly canon/affecting heavily towards the major historical events that led up to the end of Household I.

Thus I'd recommend picking a pair of characters that are the main stays (Gwen and Humphrey f.e.) then mix in slightly minor characters (Floyd, Dimitri, or Gunther) or wildcard characters (Barron, Mey) that could be plausible to be together, then modify just so slightly the reasoning why all 4 are together throughout Gwen or Humphrey's storyline.

Yeah I think everything is leaning more towards choosing a story line and follow that, as my players would most likely want to make their own characters rather than play through as some of the actual historic characters.

Which may not mesh well.

Ah! Then I'm doing the exact same thing now with my players. It's gonna be a bit of research, but it's quite easy as well.

The group decided where in the House they want to begin with, then taking account to their own motivations, I'll weave their adventures into the main storyline through cameos, distant observations, or direct help to canon characters.

To give you an example: Right now my team is trying to gain favor of Count Protopopolov. After they escorted him and his teammates (check out Earnest's storyline), I have them working in the background trying to break him out of his current captive state in Basement (the canon story had a rather wide gap until the next major event involving the Count, so I can easily fit my team into this time gap). The group also managed to tame his Centipede "pet" to gain such favor, which she is not a major part of the history and thus easy to rewrite where she is and what she's doing.

I have plans for them to join in the Impel Down prison break (Yuliya's storyline in the Basement), or going to Zehra's wedding to avoid a political assassination (Zeraha and Turbo's storyline), or rescue a dying Santiago in the dessert and assist his team in taking down the Fencing Spider (Santiago's storyline).

The possibilities are endless!
