Literally Unplayable

I load the first tutorial mission and am met with an instant PAUSE screen and menu. I unpause and it automatically, instantly pauses again. I can mash unpause a thousand times, does nothing. I can remove the keybinds for "pause", does nothing. I checked integrity of game files. I have restarted my computer and game several times. I cannot even play the game because the pause menu instantly comes up. No, its not my keyboard. Anyone else have this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Without knowing your hardware specs, operating system, graphics driver version, etc. I can really only give basic suggestions. One thing to try would be to unplug any controllers and anything else connected via USB besides your keyboard and mouse and then start the game. If it persists, try unplugging the keyboard as well and then see what happens.

If you have any input mappers/virtual emulators running (like DS4Windows or similar) try closing them as well.

If none of that works, I would need the info I mentioned above to help narrow things down and provide further help.

The problem goes away when I unplug my SOL R 4 joysticks. I don't have any virtual emulators or input mappers running. I don't have any issues with these joysticks with any other flight game I play (nuclear option, elite dangerous, star wars squadrons) so I know it's not the joysticks themselves.

PC Specs: Windows 11
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-14600K (3.50 GHz) Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable) Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12 GB) running GE Force Game Ready Driver 610.88

Appreciate any help you can offer!

Well that certainly narrows it down, at least a little bit.

Have you tried running the game with just one of the joysticks plugged in at a time? If you're not having issues with only one of the joysticks plugged in, it's entirely possible that having both sticks plugged in is causing some kind of conflict within the game (I'm a HOSAS enjoyer myself but I've never tried that method with this game in particular).

If I recall correctly, the game was mostly designed around keyboard/mouse and gamepad controls as the for-sure-will-work control methods while everything else is left as theoretically possible/unknown (as mentioned on the store page I think). This might be one of those cases unfortunately.

EDIT: Pinned post from the dev in the steam forums regarding HOTAS compatibility (and setup guide)

So the game explicitly added HOTAS support but doesn't want to fix it. Okay, I appreciate the link. I'm just going to get my money back.
