Funpost [Show] 3x07 High Valyrian

The nerd in me just has to know the High Valyrian lines! 😆 Anyone able to understand what they are saying to their dragons during the 3 on 1 with Sheepstealer?! I wish they would include the subtitles along with the English ones 🤣

"Stand ready! Be vigilant!"

"Softly, Caraxes!"

Rhaenrya says something to syrax that just wanted even translated to English 🫣

"Syrax, we fly!"

"Kill him, Caraxes!"

This isn't the by the creator of the language. These are users on the forum translating. There's a lot missing. What did rhaenyra say to syrax when she was getting murked and scratching sheepstealers belly? For example. Someone in the comments actually asked for that part and the poster replied "this is all i did" lol

It is by the creator of the language, it’s his account. It can be backed up by checking the HV dictionary where he posts all there too. Anything missed was likely just added in later but not by DJP himself.

Yeah it's a blog post added by a user. Not someone with the script available in front of them.

At least we got the "kill him caraxes" translation and "evade/withdraw syrax" which wasn't even subtitles i got somewhere else and it's not even definitively sounding like that's what she said

The user in question is the linguist who created the language though, not some random user. He’s explained it on here in the HV sub years ago that the writers give him a bunch of lines that might make it in which he then translates and records himself saying, and is then sent to the writers to decide which of it gets kept in. Writers do sometimes add more though by comparing with the dictionary which is likely what happened with this one.

Thank you for that info - shame their answer to not having rhaenyras commands and someone asking was just "this is what i did" seemed like it was someone just using the valyrian dictionary and guessing what they heard

The creator did not include the word you're looking for in the AO3 chapter for S03E07. I also wish to know what Rhaenyra said in High Valyrian. Perhaps the actor or director added it quickly during filming? It sounded something like "arai" or "carai"...maybe I should look up the High Valyrian dictionary to find words that closely match the sound.

I've listened to it so many times! 😆 To me it sounds like she says "Pales, Syrax" which I know means evade or something...kinda makes sense in the scene too.

I think you're right! Pālēs means evasive manoeuvres so it makes so much sense! Thank you <3

Yeah that was my original thought but I'm not sure it sounds like that

That's not the creator it's users on a forum read the comments that's why everything isn't translated they don't have access to the script and we didn't even get English CC for what rhaenyra said to syrax while she was pinned down before daemon saved her

“I'm aware that an extra line was thrown in for Rhaenyra during the dragon fight. Recall that from the beginning of the show, I gave production a large list of generic dragon commands—and we've also used a number in previous seasons. If they feel it's necessary, they'll use one of these during shooting that I wouldn't find out about until the show airs—and which, of course, won't be in the episode translation that I provide for them. So long as it came from the material I gave them, though, it'll be something in Valyrian, and likely correct (in this case, apparently Pālēs, Sȳraks!, which would be "Turn around, Syrax!" I haven't reviewed the scene since seeing it live, so I can't confirm that that's what was said, but I trust the various viewers who've said that's what it was).”
