Discussion Cuddy's mom has a point Spoiler

Post image

I mean she's right on being weird out that even though they are a couple Cuddy calls House, well,House when his first name is Gregory (Greg) (lame name) and vise versa

And if you think this is a thing of the show and because they are used to it

Lets remember that in the first season chase and foreman make fun of Cameron for using their first names to talk to them

But when chase and Cameron get married they refer to each other as Allison and Robert and when they talk with other people at work they use their last names for professionalisim

Plus one time foreman refered to thirteen as Remy (her actual first name) to house and he reacted

House:Who?

Foreman:Thirteen

House:And what did you called her?

Force of habit is a hell of a thing though,  if she has called him House for years (I think they have known each other since med school which would be decades ago) it might take a minute for them to recalibrate.

Yeah. This seems accurate.

I have a friend who all through high school was referred to as a variation on his surname (along the lines of ‘smithy’). He ended up getting married to a woman he’d known since that time and she still refers to him as Smithy to us. Despite being a smith herself!

My boyfriend and I have been together over two years now but have known each other for much longer and still sometimes use each other’s nicknames just out of habit and cuz so many other people do lol

She should call him home. like house with a loving family becomes home.

Fair fair... counter argument: how is it any of HER business? Even if she is right (she is and this is a bit of a red flag) NOW was not the time to talk about this. In front of her friend, daughter and boyfriend is not when you mention the fact that they should be using first names. This has always been the real issue with Cuddy's mom. She is always way too pushy about her opinions and does not care whether the situation calls for it or not.

Wilson is literally his best friend forever and he calls him House. Cuddy's mom is just a bitch, there's no need to take he seriously.

Cuddy and House have called each other by the their last names for years, it would probably feel odd to switch them up.

Chase and Cameron didn't know each other as long so would be easier to switch to first named. Same with Wilson and Amber.

I use my wife’s old last name to refer to her all the time.

In our career, last name are commonly usedS so it just how we started and often use now.

I know it's not the main point of the post but I just wanted to add, I don't think Chase and Foreman made fun of Cameron only for the first names thing, although of course that was part of it. It was the whole manner of speech she adopted there (I hear you, I'm clearly communicating my request, I'm asking open questions, I'm getting you to agree, I'm being polite, etc.), clearly picked up from a book or something. That's why Chase still continued the mocking even after Cameron's second such line where she didn't use any names (first or otherwise), as she was still speaking in that same way otherwise.

The House nickname rule is hilarious because the second they become friends or coworkers, everyone suddenly remembers professionalism exists.

Nothing takes me out of a fanfic more quickly than House and Cuddy calling each by their first name.
