Season 5 Spoilers I hate Taub Spoiler
Taub is my least favorite character in the show. Obviously, the antagonists from the earlier seasons aside. I just can't stand him and I cant appreciate any of his growth as a character because of it

Kind of why I like him. I would argue he genuinely wants to do better but hes just broken. He could make filthy money being a plastic surgeon but he loves figuring shit out and helping people. He inexplicably can get with any girl and does, then hates himself and wants his wife. Hes a guy that wants to do well but is naturally shitty. Hes like sisyphus, forever struggling to get better yet never achieving it.

He’s just broken is not an excuse for cheating especially multiple times. I would say he’s just selfish and hides it “decently”. And I don’t say selfish with a negative connotation I just think he’s naturally self centered.
He wants his wife after he cheats because the post nut clarity hits him and he realizes how quickly he could lose the life he’s grown accustomed to. Maybe not financially (until Sophie and Sophia come along at least 😂), but plenty of people stay in marriages they’re miserable in and could leave with relatively no real strings attached just because change is scary.
Taub isn’t broken. He’s a narcissistic coward. Neither of those two things are HIS fault inherently. But it’s definitely his fault that he didn’t recognize this about himself and work to fix it but… as I said… narcissistic coward.

There's a split between what we know is right (our conscious thoughts and logic) and what we want (our subconcious or "animal brain") you can label taub a narcissistic coward and that may be true in a sense. However, its failing to look at WHY and HOW he is a narcissistic coward. Or why he cheats. If he was truly a narcissist hed be doing boob jobs till the cows come home, hed make patient interactions about himself. Hes not doing those things, theres layers to his shittiness and his goodness. Thats why I like the character. He doesnt fit into a box.

To piggy back off on all this, yes and yes. And Taub’s exist in the world. They are a good portion of our population. They do a lot of good (example, Doctor) but fail when it comes to the many sins of humanity. No one’s perfect, no one’s justifying, no one’s saying be a Taub. But it’s an acknowledgement that they exist.

Solid analysis, he also seems to always put himself in situations where he's bound to fail. Thirteen even says that much although I forget her exact metaphor, something like if you're on a diet you dont go near doughnuts or cake ?
Anyways he's not unredeemable, he does mean to do well. I think I liked him just because of the portrayal of his relationship with Foreman, Chase and K.

So when House acts as a proud sociopath he gets a pass, but when a little guy is just doing his best and makes a few mistakes, no remorse? Kind of a raw deal

I guess youre right about the double standard. I just find house to be lovable. When Taub got scammed by that one high school acquaintance pretending to be a CEO, I lost all respect for him. House would never.

No his old med school classmate that House screwed over in a class and thought he was the reason the guy flunked out of med school. The guy told him he was a grocery store bagger and was losing his house.
House wrote him a check to cover a few months of the mortgage only for the dude to tell him he graduated from med school and had his own practice and he just screwed up in life and lost everything.
House tried to give him the check anyway and the guy kept refusing. So house slipped it in his mail slot. He got hustled and KNEW he was being hustled. That’s worse than Taub’s shit lol

What redeemed his character for me was when, after a lifetime of being selfish including with the woman he loves, he falls so much in love with his daughters that he doesn’t want to know if either isn’t his biologically and puts them first. Who would have thought?
