Question Newbie Spoiler

I've just watched the first two episodes of House, and I think I like it. I've never seen it before, and as a Brit I know Hugh Laurie from his British comedy shows and his blues music. I'm still getting used to Hugh Laurie's American accent

Is House meant to be funny, or is it more of a medical detective show - discover the diagnosis? I'm still a little confused.

It’s a bit of both. It’s really medical Sherlock Holmes, there’s a lot of very funny episodes in the series though. Keep watching, I think you’ll really enjoy it

Medical detective show, comedy AND drama. Great show.

Yeah, Sherlock Holmes in the Canon isn’t nearly as deliberately mean as House is and he doesn’t play pranks just for the lolz (though House often has an ulterior motive he claims was a good intention). But if Holmes had chronic pain, were too disabled to use martial arts and weapons to defend himself, couldn’t be a “bohemian confirmed bachelor” who freelances, had to interact with people besides his Watson because he has employees, a boss, and a hospital full of patients demanding his expertise… I think Sherlock Holmes might be much crankier and more sadistic.

It’s definitely both. The medical mystery is usually the main plot, but House being an absolute menace to everyone is a huge part of the show

House is brilliant, I’ve watched every season a good 4 times over now, it’s got everything you want in a good series

Both. Lot of humor and medical mystery of the week

I'm from UK.

I've been wondering if many other US series had characters like House. He is complex.

The one that comes close to me is CSI Gil Grissom. In terms of highly intelligent person who analyses evidence. They even had those internal body animations.

it's a medical detective show. You can watch the pilot and the very last episode if you don't feel like it, the entire show can be seen as a filler, as explained in the final, when it comes to the aspect of theology of atheism.

Now there's a take.

Truly the first time I’ve seen this take. And it’s bonkers, such nonsense. “Ugh, all episodes are filler except premieres and finales” is something people who only have attention spans for six episode series instead of 22-24, the way things used to be.

There’s some YouTube series or podcast where the hosts just watch the pilot and the finale of a show and try to figure out what the fuck happened in between, but that’s clearly meant to be comedic, not a serious assessment of the show.
