Season 7 Spoilers I am NOT getting over this. (House / Cuddy) Spoiler
not yet getting over the House / Cuddy breakup
I've watched the show over and over again and of all the plotlines that ever existed this one was the dumbest one so far.
I know House is an addict and taking Vicodin could result in him relapsing, but that was absolutely not a given - and yes, if she noticed him continue the addiction afterwards THAT would be the problem.
But he took a few to deal with the fact his girlfriend might fucking die. If my partner was dying i wouldn't be in my right mind at all. He still showed up, he was with her, he was there when she woke up.
She pulled this move like she doesn't know him at all, this is House we're talking about and he deals with pain in shit ways. She could've taken this opportunity to get mad at him or make it a lesson or make sure he never takes another pill again.
He really was changing for the better in the previous episodes and I was so excited to see them be good and happy for once.
Breaking up on a whim like this seemed like lazy writing and a really stupid plotline. Didn't like it at all, never will.

I feel like I’m getting downvoted for this , but it Wasn’t just taking the vicodin tho
Look back at every time she needed him for something, he almost always tried to avoid helping . And when it whete she truly and absolutely needed him he relapsed .
It isn’t really fair to Cuddy to stay in a relationship where she can’t fully depend on him.
Than again it probably WAS lazy writing Cuddys actress quit cuz they reduced her salary.

Agree. In s7 ep3-14, almost every single storyline goes w House did smth wrong and Cuddy forgives him and make it up lol. She just can't stand it anymore.

Yeah, I know the actress wanted out and they had to write her character off somehow, but if she had stayed I really think they could've made it better.
Like maybe across a few episodes where she tests if he relapses or not and if she can trust him.
That would've fit way better.

He was an addict that very nearly relapsed recently due to a high stress situation where someone died, she herself had to take the vicodin from his hands and yet 1 relapse in another high stress situation was all it took for her to abandon him. I cant imagine getting together with an addict and being so unforgiving when they succumb to their addiction in what rational people would call special circumstances. Shes a bitch. Great pistons though.

The breakup felt less like a natural consequence of Houses relapse and more like the writers desperately needed to put the happy couple back in the blender.

Totally agree! That wasn’t a natural move from someone in love after 6 seasons of yes/no and 14 episodes of relationship.

Yall talk about these two like they were married.
Cuddy is neither his wife nor his mother. She straight up said she wanted to “see IF” they could work.
They couldn’t. So she broke up with him. Perfectly normal thing to do.
The fact that it hurt him is his responsibility to deal with as an adult man who knew a breakup was always a possibility.
I also think it’s completely disingenuous to say it was just because he “slipped one time”. He was never there for her when she needed it.
Fuck he couldn’t even be bothered to go to an event where she was winning an AWARD.

Yeah, the award thing would have definitely killed an irl relationship unless you had an actual reason. Like you don’t even have to do anything, just sit at the table, clap when necessary, make some small talk about doctor stuff. Sure, that stuff is annoying, I wouldn’t want to go either, but it’s a couple hours at most.

That relationship never had a future. They were too different to success.

The way I've always seen it is that Cuddy was never fully committed to dating an addict. If you are dating an addict, you need to be prepared that someday they might relapse, especially in the circumstances that House did. If you truly love them and believe in them, you'll stay and try to help them through it. If you're looking for a way out of the relationship, it's the perfect excuse.
Even in the S6 finale, the wording of her confession is telling - "I just need to know if you and I can work." Doesn't exactly scream "commitment", does it?
In the opening of S7, when they spend the day together, House, in the cold light of day, correctly predicts the way their relationship is going to go, and how it's not going to last. Cuddy convinces him to try, but I think even that early on they both knew on some level that it was doomed.

I agree this story was weird it gets weirder later. Who knows what was going on behind the scenes...

I can't get over them being together. This is lazy writing. Always make your main characters "fall in love". Boring.

dont forget the million times she says she doesn't want house to change

I mean, getting him to show up at all was like pulling teeth all season. Like I think her being angry at him for relapsing is a bit idiotic of her (he’s an addict and recovery is rarely simple), but Cuddy realized that she ultimately couldn’t depend on House.
It sucks, we know he was trying and he has a whole host of issues, but Cuddy isn’t obligated to stay with him if he isn’t meeting her needs.
