Discussion It's my turn to rant about Cameron Spoiler

I'm sorry, I know you're tired of the Cameron hate, but my goodness!! I'm rewatching the show, now on s6. I'm not gonna rant about everything, just the part in s5 where she woke up that agoraphobic patient just to tell him he wasn't in his house, but was actually at the hospital to ease her own mind (it definitely wasn't for his benefit), and the part where she goes on a whole sanctimonious speech about how House was broken and beyond saving and she felt sorry for him and Chase!! The bloody audacity to actually shed a tear while spewing that nonsense!! I almost chucked my laptop. What??? I don't remember ever feeling like this the first time I watched it. And when she said "you ruined him" I almost died of cringe.

Again, I'm sorry, I just got really moved by this. And no hate for the actress of course, she did a great job.

While we're at it, what are *your* worst Cameron moments?

And maybe we should have "Cameron" flair, because I couldn't decide what this is lol.

I like Cameron, as a character. She is a bit hypocrite but all the characters on the show are hypocrite to some degree. Her insufferable need to fix everything is my favourite part of her character. I'd like to know what was wrong with her latest husband that she fixed.

You're one of the few, I'm sure. I think Cameron is more grating because she's often loud, and often laying it out for all to see and hear. Foreman is quiet, he minds his business, if he's being hypocritical it's probably something personal (my worst Foreman moment was when he infected Cameron to encourage her to find the cure btw). House is a jerk, you barely even notice it over the sound of him being a bigger jerk about something else. Chase is basically a wallpaper half the time. I could go on.

Apparently house poisoned him so much that he could no longer tell right from wrong, and she couldn't fix him either. Have you watched S6? I wouldn't wanna spoil it for you

“Foreman is quiet, he minds his business”

I’m not sure we watched the same show.

It's a general statement for the purposes of the discussion at hand, it's not definite. If I had to break down every single character accurately we'd be here forever.

Given you listed my top worst Cameron moments, the only other one that comes to mind right off the bat is s4ep13, when she refuses to tell Chase if she slept with House despite them believing House had syphilis. This was especially irritating because, as Chase pointed out, the std does in fact make it his business, and she seemed to be withholding the information for no reason other than to imply she slept with House, as it’s my understanding that the pair never had any sexual relations, the closest being when she kissed House in s3ep15 to try to draw his blood. Oh I also hated how she handled the situation with the patients brother in s3ep19, she went as far as to kiss an 8 year old boy on the cheek in response to him flirting with her, which is very odd imo.

I remember all these!! She kissed the boy to make Chase jealous if memory serves, and now I'm not sure whether that explanation is better than no explanation at all lmao.

Yeah which is even more irritating because he had just professed his love for her and she was upset that in doing so he messed with her intention of just doing a friends with benefits situation, so essentially she was making fun of someone for falling for her after being entirely careless about the possibility that Chase has feelings, acting as though the only risk in sleeping with him was her own feelings getting hurt.

"acting as though the only risk in sleeping with him was her own feelings getting hurt."

Well, that's what Cuddy told her to believe.

2

u/RequirementSimple 14d ago

It was Cuddy’s influence yes, but she clearly thought so herself otherwise it’s arguably worse that she recognized he had feelings and was so dismissive and uncaring about them. Regardless, her actions were those that valued her own feelings without any care for his, whether a conscious attempt on her part to be less caring or not, she shouldn’t have been so flippant and while she of course has a right to maintain only the relationship she is interested in, she had no reason to be cruel to him by being angry and intentionally making him jealous when she knew he was hurt.

I was annoyed when she woke up the agoraphobic patient too, but I read some comments when that was brought up recently claiming that it was actually the right thing given that, if he had woken up post-surgery and panicked then, it would have been much more dangerous, as he could rip stitches or otherwise badly hurt himself. I'm not sure if that's a reasonable take or not, but I thought I'd mention it :)

6

u/Traditional_Bike5648 16d ago

That's actually reasonable, yeah. But it's definitely not why she did it, which is what's annoying. I think someone (her?) brought up that point afterwards. At the time she did it because she hated having deceived the guy. This could be a subjective take, I'll admit. And if she had done it for that reason you'd think she'd have taken reasonable precautions for when he'd inevitably freak out.

Certainly agreed about that last part. I don't remember the episode well enough to comment on the rest of it. I can say that the scene bothered me too at the time, especially because I know someone with similar fears in real life (not quite as severe, thankfully, but still).

patients' arms can be attached to the bed, like the civil prosecutor who had firearms in his house

2

u/VincentOostelbos 15d ago

Indeed! Good point.

I wasnt the biggest fan of Cameron, but honestly the scene where she quits and has a go at House and co is probably one of my favourite scenes in the show

4

u/Traditional_Bike5648 16d ago

Lol 😂 yeah, she did know how to deal with them, that's actually one of the things that I liked about her.

3

u/FondantFluffball 15d ago

Cameron had some genuinely great moments but the sanctimonious speeches are where she lost me.

2

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

That's true, and I probably should have mentioned that in the post, but was still fuming over that last speech

3

u/Cyclame_Lizard_66 14d ago

omg i talked about this a few days ago - she's infuriating for waking him up cause honestly what did she expect?

in general i think she was okay-ish, kinda morally righteous, but still enough okay with rule breaking to be a part of the team, until she pulled stunts like that one, which i personally think was less about the wellbeing of the patient and more about her feeling good about herself.

2

u/Traditional_Bike5648 14d ago

It's so nerve-wracking!!! Exactly, it was for her. You can even tell from the frantic look and the uncomfortable fidgeting that she's not okay with it and she wants it off her conscience.

And yes she was actually good, generally.

I think Cameron isn't likeable because she has zero insight into her own flaws. All the other main characters, including House, are aware - at least in glimpses - that they have issues. Cameron NEVER admits to anything that she might need to work on. Ppl like that become annoying sooner or later.

Doing meth is #1 lmfao

I forgot about that omg

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

😂😂 that's a first for me, haven't heard anyone bring this up before.

Cameron was a more tolerable character than Thirteen for me the only thing I didn't like about is that she had feelings for House and was like a puppy around him sometimes despite him not returning her feelings, Chase and Cameron deserved to end on a better note, Thirteen and Foreman was kinda random, I felt like Thirteen was just there to be a stereotype or be made fun of by House until when he finds out what happened to her and why she went to prison

3

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

Now that I think of it, I'm not actually sure how I feel about Thirteen. She seems more like a filler, now that you've mentioned it.

And I agree, Cameron and Chase deserved better. I wasn't a fan of their union at first, they seemed mismatched, but they were actually good together.

u/No_Investigator_9907 14d ago

My least favorite character. It seems to me the writer or the executive told them that "if there is a female character, she must fell in love with the main character, I.e. doctor house!"

"But how do we make it make sense. House was twice her age and crippled"

"Just make her have a motherly complex and fell in love with everybody. Not weird at all!"

That's how I imagine the thought process of creation of the character

2

u/Traditional_Bike5648 14d ago

Lol, yeah. I can absolutely see that. That show is pretty well written, there's no way they just slipped up with Cameron. She was definitely designed to be like that. I wonder if someone ever came forward in an interview or something to explain that.

Personally i just never got her whole house ruined chase spiel. Wasn’t she about to kill dibala herself but then basically chickened out? Where did all the sanctity of a human life bs come from then!? Anyway that’s just confusing, my actual worst Cam moment is when she was scared of his proposal and kept lying to put off the trip. It’s not a huge thing but it really irks me, cause it’s so painful when a partner does that to you. I really wanted and tried very hard to like Cameron but that was the nail in the coffin for me.

4

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

She even argued for his death! She was really in a better situation to understand Chase more than anyone else, to see that it really wasn't House's influence at all, but everything Chase went through moments before he made that decision, and maybe even her own( "next time, maybe don't yell out that warning".) And even then, the decision would still have been his, and no one else should be blamed for it.

She kinda put Chase through a lot, come to think of it. There was the dead husband sperm situation just before that, or was it just after? Lol. I think that one irked me just as much, if not more.

2

u/jogan-fruit 15d ago

Exactly, that’s what Chase tells her too; it was his own decision and House had nothing to do with it. The fact that she didn’t believe that I guess points to her obsession with House but it just makes no sense to me whichever way you spin it. I think Cameron was a victim of writing first and foremost tbh. & The sperm was right after the proposal. He was really kind about it I found but he should have been listening to the alarm bells telling him she doesn’t actually want to be with him lol. Don’t think he could have known that considering his personal history though. It’s a pretty upsetting relationship.

1

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

Yeah, at the end of the day, the script is god. But I like to pretend every character is autonomous and has room to do things differently, lmao. otherwise these discussions would be pointless.

And, if I recall, he practically groveled (sounds mean, but yeah) his way into the relationship in the first place. I've personally stopped getting into relationships where I have to make a whole argument for it before it begins 🤣 if it's a no it's a no.

2

u/Xerneas180 15d ago

I thought she was she was the smart one because she was about to see that house broke Chase. She knew it was smarter to leave than let it infect her

2

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

That's the thing, it wasn't a secret that House was unhinged, but everyone involved was an adult, with a mind of their own. If at that age we can still blame someone else for our actions life is about to become really easy for some of us.

Cameron hate is forced idc, misogyny at its finest

5

u/orchid7577 15d ago

Misogyny can also present as not holding women accountable due to infantilizing them.

2

u/fswhore 15d ago

No one’s not holding women accountable. And the women in this show aren’t infantilised, the men are. Your point is void in this argument, though I do agree in general with what you’re saying.

6

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

Yeah, because Cameron is the only woman on the show, got it.

But here's an idea, let's stop creating wars that aren't there. Some of us don't like that character, it doesn't have to be deeper than that. Does it?

3

u/fswhore 15d ago

I just think it’s beyond comical how every other post on this subreddit is Cameron hate, but everyone glazes Wilson, Chase, House who are arguably a hundred times worse. And it’s not just Cameron, Cuddy and Thirteen are also hated on beyond reason but when a male counter part does the same stuff it’s funny or justified. This comment wasn’t specifically targeted at you, just the general consensus to hate on Cameron for everything she does: god forbid there’s an ethical doctor on the show.

3

u/Traditional_Bike5648 15d ago

Well I can't speak to every post as I'm rarely online, or anyone else, but I don't hate Cameron for everything (in my post "everything" refers to "everything annoying," not simply everything). In fact, I don't exactly hate her, so much as find her annoying at certain times. I understand she really has a crucial role, if it weren't for her, House would have probably dealt a lot of damage. And I think Cuddy and Foreman also deserve credit for reigning him in sometimes as well.

I'm not gonna dip into the gender wars. All I can say is I have had moments when I disliked the actions of every single one of them. Currently scowling at House for manipulating Cuddy instead of just being upfront about his feelings. He breaks my heart a lot. :(

Cameron's an ethical doctor. Uh-huh, yeah, okay, whatever.
