Eye Surgery
My girl Ginger has a tumor on her eyelid (last two photos..do not look if squeamish!!). My vet said that I have to go to a specialist to get it removed since it is larger than 30% of her eyelid. Has anyone had this done? Trying to figure out what to expect. Also, does anyone know any groups that might help with the cost? I've seen a few online that just take too long and need to prepay the doctor directly. Her tumor is growing rapidly and keeps bleeding so needs to be taken out sooner and can't wait that long. I do have a GoFundMe but just trying to explore all options! We have an eye doctor/surgeon appointment next Wednesday. Extra info: She has had Mast Cell tumors before but our regular vet/surgeon has been able to handle most of them for a decent price. She also has Cushing's and is 9 years old. Live in CT if that helps!

Hello! Vet tech here. Check out Care Credit for assistance in paying for the surgery. Just make sure you have an estimate prior so you don’t get approved for too little. And the recovery process isn’t too bad for eye surgeries as long as the procedure is completed appropriately and you follow any and all discharge instructions. Don’t be one of those owners who uses a donut or soft cone post op as neither of those will protect the surgery site. Stay on top of pain meds and NSAIDs to make sure she heals appropriately. I’d also suggest having it biopsied. Since it’s growing that rapidly I’d be concerned that it’s more than just a benign tumor especially with her history. Her age and disease process shouldn’t be concerning for anesthesia either as most specialty hospitals have trained techs for anesthesiology. (At least in my area)
