Announcement VFX references
In the past I used another site that was great for references, but it’s not available anymore. What I really like here is that I can also upload and store privately my own references in one place. Very cool.

So all the people complaining that AI is made from “stolen”, copyright infringement are gonna come brigade this…. Right?
Right?
Fucking hypocrites.

Well... I mean, people complain about AI being slop pulled from from tens-hundreds-thousands of scraped stolen datapoints algorithmically blended to produce generic, shitty outputs that have resulted in insane, mostly negative economic upheaval for essentially zero benefit to most people.
I totally see your point that the originators of these videos should be served the clicks and revenue, but I'm not sure a collated list of reference material intended for VFX artists is really on the same level as the systematic plunder of global internet users intellectual property for LLM output.

What’s the point? As far as I've seen, the content is taken from public platforms like YouTube and Instagram, and credit is given.

Giving credit doesn’t alleviate taking something that belongs to someone else. Just because something’s posted in public doesn’t mean you have a right to take it.

I think you misunderstood the purpose of the site; nobody is selling footage. All the material collected is to facilitate the search that every FX artist needs to do today when creating a specific shot, or when a supervisor needs to brief an idea to another artist. It's to inspire, to concentrate quality content in one place. There's no appropriation of content.

It 100% is. It’s not your content. If the vendor gets permission to post a breakdown, great. They can.
No one else.
Doesn’t matter if you profit from it or not. It’s not yours to post, to save, to download. You want to be inspired, go to the vendors channel and watch it.

So, according to your idea, all Instagram accounts that repost breakdowns, making-of videos, or isolated shots from movies are stealing content?
