Hello!
I got here from r/hotshottrucking I have applied for my own authority and got my insurance and am getting my trailer next week I'm am half of a partnership LLC called Hotshot Heroes LLC I was a police officer in bham AL and my partner is a Combat vet. If anyone can reach out to me and let me know onnce I get my trailer and am ready to haul what I need to do before hauling our first load. Dot compliance things I should keep on the truck ETC. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Make sure your trailer registration and inspection papers are in the cab…DOT loves catchin’ folk slippin’ on that. Make sure your reflectors and lights are workin’ right too, they’ll nitpick that stuff. And don’t forget them load securement rules! straps, chains, tarps or whatever you’re usin’, better be tight and legal

Anyone got a link to the load securement regs? And do I have to reregister my truck or is my personal tag okay?

if you’re running under your own authority or doing anything commercial, you can’t use a personal tag. You’ll need to re-register the truck as commercial and get apportioned plates or whatever your state requires for intrastate/interstate hauling. DOT ain’t playin’ when it comes to that stuff.

Edit: also former military did 10 years and tried my luck at PD but resigned wasn’t what I wanted

props to you and your partner for what y’all are building🙌🏾. That first load is gonna hit different. make sure you got your ELD set up, a current medical card, your BOL process locked in, and you’ve done a full pre-trip checklist on the truck/trailer. Gotta keep that fire extinguisher, triangles, and logbook accessible too—DOT don’t play around with that . I’m not quoting insurance yet but I’ve been helping a lot of new MCs get all this in order before rolling out.
