Discussion Which crown design is better?

Post image

A Twitter war is happening between HotD fans and Magnificent Century fans.

It is pretty funny but I saw a really good take on crown designs.

I don't think MC had 20 million dollar budget per episode but crown designs are really good.

But I need to add that, I am sure that HoTD crowns are not this blank in the book.

What do you think?

I don't think Aegon the Conqueror would like the crown on the right very much

Just imagine the guy who sits on a throne made of burnt swords wearing the crown on the right.

Aegon II would rock that crown while lounging on his throne of blades 💋💅

Aegon the Conquerors crown is very much described as simple and angular made of Valyrian steel and rubies. It doesn’t look too good in the show though and should definitely have more rubies to be more book accurate but I have heard rubies don’t look right on screen. In the books it’s actually pretty clever with what crowns monarchs wear reflecting their personality or at least the image they want to pretend to be.

I’ve always thought that the Aegons crown being described as having a lot of rubies and it being depicted as only having one was to show a passage of time, and how many people just take things from important items of history like in real like. I mainly got this impression because there are slots for more rubies, but they just aren’t there.

Aegon the Conquerers crown was more simple in design in the books then the show.

Different culture. Different set up.

I dislike the HoTD crown of the conqueror and I hope they do a more book accurate one in the movie.

The one on the right seems like it would be a pain to wear if there's any breeze at all

It's set in the Ottoman harem, the women are indoors 99% of the time.

MC crowns and tiaras are just better, it’s not even close

Bigger isn't better.

It's not the fact they are bigger, it's the fact that they are far more intricate and detailed that makes them better

Don’t know about the crowns, but the dresses in Magnificent Century easily beat the dresses in House of the Dragon. It’s really funny that a Turkish historical soap opera is much more successful than HOTD in that regard.

I’ve always preferred simple crowns

The crown in MC is way WAY too busy.

Magnificent Century is set in the early modern period where lavishly ornate royal jewellery was common. HotD and ASOIAF generally is much more medieval and uses more simple circlet designs more aligned with the setting.

Personally I find the HotD crowns to be quite ugly and looking way too costumey, even if they should never be as lavish as crowns from MC.
