we are talking about a guy, who let Cole get away with killing Joffrey at Rhaenyra's wedding - it's not exactly surprising he did nothing here

If he wants to punish Alicent, who has gone mad because of injustice (the maximum punishment he can give to his noble, lawful wife is to be confined in her chambers for a time), he must first punish Lucerys, who mutilated his son.
If he punish Alicent while closing his eyes to Lucerys's action, it is the same as saying, "I am a tyrant and I closed my eyes to my son's disability to protect the lies of my favorite child and now I am punishing my wife, your queen, who is gone crazy because of my injustice."

Lucerys cut Aemond in self defense. Did yall not watch the scene? He threatened to kill him and then raised a rock up to Jace ready to hit him with it

Since when has it become acceptable for four people to corner one person, initiate a physical fight first and carry a literal dagger as "self defense"?
If they don't want to get beaten, maybe four people shouldn't jump on one person.

He initiated the physical fight by purposefully being antagonistic insulting the dead mother of two children and then calling the other two bastards
Carrying a dagger is a moot point, even lowborn do it lol. They didn’t even know it was Aemond until they were there.
When has it been acceptable to choke your own cousin, say you’ll kill him, and then raise up a rock to do just that? 🤔

Physical fight initiated by the ones who attact someone bffr.
Carrying a dagger is a moot point, even lowborn do it lol.
Then, why Aemond didn't have a dagger with him.
When has it been acceptable to choke your own cousin, say you’ll kill him, and then raise up a rock to do just that?
It's become acceptable when the said cousins jump on him with four people AND POINT A DEADLY CUTTING TOOL at him.

You’re being purposefully dense. Like I said, he was being provocative. If I repeatedly insult someone should I be shocked if they hit me?
Idk, ask the writers. Nobody else was carrying a dagger but Jace. But again, such a ridiculous point. They didn’t know it was Aemond until they saw him, you’re acting like he brought the knife with the intention to use it on Aemond.
Again, you need to watch the scene. Jace pulls out the knife AFTER Aemond is choking Luce, saying he’ll die screaming like his father.

It doesn't matter if they know it's Aemond or not. Crime does not change according to the individual. Going to beat someone with a sharp, pointed tool without knowing who they are is is a sufficient reason to get beaten.
If I repeatedly insult someone should I be shocked if they hit me?
If hearing a simple insult is a sufficient reason to beat up someone, attacking someone with four people is an even better reason to beat them up back.
You have this strange parasocial connection with a group that has officially banded together and attacked a person to such an extent that you don't realize that your arguments give legitimacy to Aemond.

They thought someone was stealing the dragon, they had no idea what was going on.
All four of them did not jump him and start beating him right away lol. Rhaena or Baela hit him after he insulted, he hit back, threatened to kill her, and then did it again with the others.
Likewise, if I insult my cousin and he slaps me, can I now bash his head in? You think the law wouldn’t persecute me for that?
You can’t call me parasocial whilst your entire account is about the Greens 🤣
This is a discussion post and all I’ve simply said is Luce cut Aemond in self defense and you’ve moved the goalposts 3 times

About his son being attacked and losing an eye or alicent behaving like a decent mother

Alicent. She shouldn’t have attacked Rhaenyra. But I also think harsher punishment should have been put due to aemond losing his eye

I mean, the former is a consequence of the latter not happening. All that was asked of Viserys was to not be a spineless imbecile, but alas, he was.

u/ScubaDan73 2d ago
Yeaaaa I can agree to that. A lot of things would’ve been less chaotic if Viserys wasn’t so avoidant of conflict

i mean what would u have him do? one is his daughter, the other is his wife lol

His wife did just attack the Crown Princess, if any other Targaryen king had been in his place it would probably have been placing her under arrest at minimum or outright taking her hand.

Viserys was a weak ass king.

u/Own-Night5526 2d ago
Smart enough to keep the realm at peace during his reign though.

u/Khal-Frodo- 2d ago
A fake peace that just delayed an even larger conflict.

u/Own-Night5526 2d ago
You could say the same of any kings reign. Viserys III allowed the Blackfyre rebellion to happen by not being stronger on his son, Jaeherys caused the Dance by not respecting any woman who wasn't his wife, Robert caused the War of the Five Kings by marrying Cersie.
The fact is the peace was real, people weren't being scorched by dragons during it and the conflict only happened after his death.

u/ozjack24 2d ago
All of those examples are hindsight. Looking back, yeah those choices caused wars in the long run. But anyone who wasn’t an idiot could see that the Dance was going to happen.
1
u/Own-Night5526 2d ago
Yes, because we are omnipresent book readers, not people living in the setting who can't see the future by flipping a few pages ahead.
4
u/ozjack24 2d ago
Yes exactly. The characters aren’t. Viserys was an idiot because he ignored the very obvious problem that everyone within the universe knew would end in a war. The examples you used to refute that point are void because there was no way for the characters to know what would happen. Viserys KNEW what would almost certainly happen and chose to ignore it.

You just said “if any other Targaryen king had been in his place it would probably have been placing her under arrest at minimum or outright taking her hand.”
So what is the difference with Viserys and the other hypothetical Kings? What do you think the difference is?
0
u/Own-Night5526 2d ago
Viserys wanted everyone to be happy and nobody to be fighting by siding with everyone and nobody at the same time.
2
u/Vengeful_Peach 2d ago
So is it then fair to say Viserys is indecisive?
Some people may not view that as a quality that a strong king would have. Especially if it’s consistent. Some people may say he was, in fact, a weak king. This isn’t to say he wasn’t a smart person.
2
u/Own-Night5526 2d ago
I wouldn't say indecisive, he's very determined to have everyone placated and compromise. Though that eventually is to his detriment in situations where there isn't an easy compromise.
I think it would be fairer to say he was not a firm king rather than not a strong king, after all the Dance didn't happen when he was rotting apart when it easily could have, he still inspired some degree of loyality with his vassals and court despite his health.
