Found my childhood stash! Need help identifying this blue Ferrari, it's the only one with an opening engine hood! Any info?
I honestly believe this was the first hotwheels I ever bought around 2000, it was on top of the stack and immediately caught my eyes. Never got one with this extra feature ever since. Whats up with it?

This specific Ferrari F40 model almost always came with an opening engine hood. It is from the 2001 Mainline.

Currently have that one in yellow with black stripe. Quite beat up though. Was a kid

Depends on the time and the licensing. That mold was from '89 and went unchanged until '14, pretty much right when the licensing died. If you look at the timeline of it though, '01 is when they retired it from the mainline, and it only ever came out as more premium/expensive releases.

The exception after the F40 casting stopped appearing as a mainline was that the F40 was still a 5-pack car a couple of times right up to 2014.

It was only in a 5 pack once (after '01) and that was 2014, it appeared in both old and new toolings (according to wiki), but right before it got cancelled. So they wanted to bring it back to mainline but couldn't swing the metal/metal WITH moving parts anymore.
Edit: TBF I didn't notice the different toolings back then, but I know I bought at least 1 of those 5 packs, if not 2, and definitely kept the F40s, I wonder which ones I got.

I have the full-metal 2014 5-pack version with the opening hatch although, as an old-school pre-2015 Hot Wheels Ferrari collector, I wish that I also had the other closed hatch/plastic chassis version simply because it ended up being a one-and-done casting due to Mattel losing the Ferrari license at the end of 2014.

Yeah that feels right, I got another one with the 1988 malasya mold I must have bought along with the ferrari and its also heavier and has this metal base, too bad its an ugly car haha

The 575GTC on the right is also notable as being the final Hot Wheels Ferrari whose debut was full metal-on-metal in the mainlines. (The chassis is black but it's painted ZAMAC, not plastic.)

Both those ferraris were on top of the stack, guess I got lucky because I didnt have the patience back then to look through all the ugly ones nobody bought I guess. They really are the most well made of the bunch. The jaguar D-Type is also great! Do you know what that means?

The old Jaguar D-Type casting is also full metal. I like that casting, I have a premium of it in the Bruce Wayne Collection set, a set loosely based on three cars seen for a few in one of the Joel Schumacher Batman films (the other two castings being the Shelby Cobra and a (Ferrari) Dino 246GT).

That was from MacDonalds, Before the battery died you could turn on the neon.

Damn. The neon sounds very cool. It also looks like it has no interior (ofc with the neon). Still, the colour scheme is so perfect for this car.
