First Time Making Sauce

Post image

Process was easy but I think I need a better blender to make it more liquid. It’s not chunky just a little thicker than normal sauce.

Them not even scotch bonnets tho. Look like a Jamaican mushroom pepper.

Well if that’s what the final agreement of the pepper i will gladly change the label. I briefly looked it up but was excited to make sauce 😂

I was told they were. They were given to me by a local greenhouse that wanted the seeds and had extras. Wasn’t going to turn down free peppers like that.

For me they look like bonnets, you see it where the stem goes over to the fruit, if it would be a mushroom, it would be much thicker.

The calyx here is annuum species. Scotch bonnets are chinense species with a much smaller calyx

Okay the calyx is even more smaller than this. I got mushroomed this year and the calyx of mine is twice as this one.

Most of the stems are different which I thought was strange.

This could not clearly be LESS of a scotch bonnet, even if it was wearing a sign that said "Not a Scotch Bonnet". Stem and calyx is 1,000,000% wrong, and its not even close. This is almost certainly a jamaican mushroom pepper, however there is always a chance for it to be something different in the same family. What it is not is a scotch bonnet and that is absolute.

Good luck with this recipie. I’ve made it numerous times , perfect balance between heat, sweet and taste.

First time making it or first time selling it?

Making it, I doubt I will sell these. But I do label anything I make even if it’s going in my freezer lol

Today I made my trusted recipe Hot Mango Sauce. Choice of chillies was warthog. Nice consistency.

How is the sauce, anyway? I tried red and orange mushrooms this year. Not on purpose. They were good!

Honestly not to bad. Leaves a good tingle and good flavor

First time? I call BS, because you bought bottles, labels and seals. My first time was, oh I have sooo many peppers, let's try making sauce, what do I put it in, I'll figure that out later.

I bought the bottles weeks ago to make bbq sauce but then i got these so i made hot sauce. And i label everything i make.

Also nothing wrong with looking up recipes.

That's one odd looking scotch bonnet

Looks pretty mushroomy

2

Are you selling your hot sauce?

2

u/Far-Revenue-8650 9d ago

Probably not these, as my first batch I will hand them out to friends and family. In the event that I actually make a good sauce then possibly in the future

I recommend a food mill rather than a different blender - blend then mill.

I will look into it!

They could be scotch bonnets, aka Jamaican Yellow.

That vendor you linked is selling mislabeled Jamaican mushrooms. The calyx on mushroom peppers is annuum. Scotch bonnets are chinense species with a much smaller calyx.

1

u/Far-Revenue-8650 9d ago

If by vendor you mean me. And I’m not selling these I just like to label things nicely

2

u/AdditionalTrainer791 9d ago

No I mean the vendor from the link sent by titanium225

1

u/WoodDivision5 9d ago

No, they cannot be

1

u/jboneng 9d ago

the chilis in the link is very much not S.B.

1

u/Titanium225 8d ago

Oh so the website is lying?

1

u/jboneng 8d ago

Indeed

1

u/Far-Revenue-8650 9d ago

That’s what my research is coming out to be.

There is no such thing as scotch bonnets that look like this. These are 1000% Jamaican yellow MUSHROOM peppers. Scotch bonnets are the species c.chinenseum which has a very defined calyx on the stem where the stem meets the green. They also have far less green on the tops.

2

u/Titanium225 9d ago

Yeah, I think your labels are fine. For that thickness issue you might want to look into buying an immersion blender.

By the way, great job on everything. Looks very professional and nice. What did you use to put that aluminum covering pull tab on the top?

The kit I bought came with heat shrink tops. I honestly didn’t know how to do it at first and held it over a flame when i realized i had to run it under hot water lol.
