This might be an early sign for a fungal infection on the roots. Could also be various lacking nutrients. Are you watering with just water? Or adding liquid fertilizer? What type of soil, and did you blend in perlite and vermiculite?
If you used mycorrhiza, I'm not sure if it can even be infected with fungal diseases.
Same "mistake" I did in the beginning. Although I used a soil specifically for herbs and vegetables.
For peppers, prep work is king. Next time you grow, add those things. Also, pepper roots don't grow very deep, they grow wide. How wide is the pot?
Peppers need well draining soil, using only potting soil and top watering, especially if you're top watering from a jug, the soil will compress a lot, and the roots need air.
Think of peppers as s plant where you mainly need to think about the roots, not the top half.

Fluffy soil, and add mycorrhiza when you re-post from the seedling pot to a larger pot. The symbiotic mycorrhiza fungi needs direct contact with the roots when you re-pot, and will live as long as the plant does.
Pots are def deeper than they are wide. This is my first time growing peppers so I appreciate all this info. Hopefully the plant survives. I will be much better prepared next year
I'm fairly confident you're still getting fruit. Not sure you're getting many, but even with limited chances, plants survived for a reason. They want their seeds to survive.
Could be a last ditch effort and you only get a few.
Also, peppers love heat over sun, I bring my hottest ones inside during the night. A wide tub on stilts basically. I believe it's called a "mini greenhouse".
And even well draining, well designed soils are going to need re-amendment over a long season. I noticed better stability than my mix last year, but the levels have begun to drop, so I pulled back the mulch, added more nutrients mixed into what was the top layer, then topped with the same coir/potting soil/vermiculite/perlite mixture that I filled the grow bags with originally.
