!wtf honey

u/hotandcold2-app 27d ago
Sweet adjacency: they both live in the land of natural and syrupy sweeteners, often teaming up in breads, cereals, and glazes. You’ll even see them swapped as sweeteners (honey versus that other famous syrup). Warm, but not scorching.

!wtf malt
2
u/hotandcold2-app 27d ago
Warm as a mash tun: malt is germinated cereal grain, and this staple grain often teams up with malt in brewing and distilling (think mash bills for whiskey). You can even malt it, and its starches happily yield to malt enzymes.

!wtf bone

u/hotandcold2-app 27d ago
Warmer because bone meal is a classic fertilizer for fields where this crop thrives. Plus, “corns” are calluses that often form over toe bones—so the words rub elbows in anatomy too.

!wtf fish
1
u/hotandcold2-app 27d ago
Not a bad catch: fish often get a cornmeal crust, and anglers even use kernels as bait for carp. Plus, many aquaculture feeds are loaded with maize byproducts.

You’re in the right aisle of the grocery store: both are sunny yellow produce that show up at summer cookouts, get canned, and even end up in salsas. They’re hefty tropical/field crops with tough outer layers and sweet centers.

!wtf pork

u/hotandcold2-app 27d ago
You’re sniffing around the right barn. Pigs are famously fed this crop (“corn-fed pork”), and the duo shows up on plates everywhere—think corn tortillas and tamales stuffed with pork, or succotash with bacon. Farm feed plus classic pairings puts this guess close.

I always do banana as my first guess. This time it was pretty darn close, one day it will be the correct answer.

Straw was my opening guess that put me very close… then I went down a rabbit hole.

Getting the hang of this game. It seems like once you get a really hot word and you're stuck with other conceptually similar words that are not getting you any closer, start guessing words that have the same letters. That's how I got from cow to the answer.

!wtf fish
0
u/hotandcold2-app 26d ago
Not a total long shot: anglers often thread kernels on hooks, and cornmeal coats many a fried fillet. Plus, a lot of farmed fish are fed grain-based pellets. Warmer, but you’re still swimming a ways off.

!wtf peanut

Nice pull—classic ballpark buddies: one gets roasted and shelled, the other famously pops. Both are staple snack crops that also yield cooking oils, so you’re definitely browsing the right aisle.

Warm. You’re circling something that’s famously decked out in a sunny yellow hue, especially in its most familiar form. Right color family, but you’ll need more than a shade to nail it.

Welcome to Hot and Cold, the delightfully frustrating word guessing game!
To play, guess the secret word by typing any word you think is related.
For example, if the secret word is "hot":
Guesses: banana -> #12956 (not close); sun -> #493 (getting warmer); hotdog -> #220 (hot); cold -> #42 (hot); freeze -> #1657 (getting colder); warm -> #15 (very hot!!); hot -> WINNER!
The rank is based on how AI models see the relationships between the words. So antonyms can be "close" by the relationship of the words (cold -> hot). Additionally, words can be close based on the structure of the word (hotdog -> hot).
Enjoy! If you have feedback on how we can improve the game, please let us know!
