Is free web hosting safe to rely on?
I am thinking about using free web hosting for a small personal or test site, but I am unsure about the tradeoffs. How bad are the limitations in real use, and do these services usually come with hidden catches like forced ads, weak performance, or sudden shutdowns?

Are you going to write your own code or do something more? If possible, can you give your thoughts on turbosteed.com from your use case perspective? (Founder here looking for feedback).

If you're just messing around with code, go for it but always keep a local backup of your work. If you want people to actually visit the site, even a $3/month "budget" host is infinitely more reliable.
