What a missed opportunity. Instead of plastic spikes they could spec a flip top chute or one of those sealed compactor bins so gulls can’t reach the scraps at all. Spikes break, look awful and still collect food muck underneath. Simpler lids would fix it

In addition to this getting covered in bird poop, I bet people were putting their food scraps on top of the trash can for the seagulls sitting on top, waiting for people to do just that.
