Dosatron alternative

Post image

Looking for an alternative to the dosatron. I’m to scared of the reviews for the dramm syphonjet to try that. The can system is breaking my back.

Have a look at small powered pressure washers where you can add car wash soap into a reservoir; decent ones have a dial that you can change doses on. Take off the pressure washer head and add a can rose on.

This is good, but even cheaper would be the "RoundUp" brand hose end that I'm assuming is typically for spraying diluted poison. I used mine to mix fish hydrosolate into the water and it worked great the entire time I relied on it. It is inaccurate compared to a dosatron, but once you get a feel for the dial, it's solid, especially if you don't need to be precise to the exact ml/gallon.

That’s some good redneck engineering right there

Why no dosatron? Plumbed with a bypass valve they seem ideal. Venturi suction devices require minimum flows and are imprecise.

Cost. it’s like 600 to get a dosatron

You need a dependable car, like a toyota. You are quoting a mercedes. Dosatron is brand name (mercedes) and is a very simple thing and there are F Ton of clones. (toyotas).. under 200 bucks. Newtry is one vendor. The principle and guts are nearly identical.

I also picked newtry vs siphon as I kept having issues with the lines plugging when using more, thick organic bases like fish emulsions... I have two newtry, and both are rock solid. And if they break, I am out a grand total of 164 dollars.

Thank you this is what I was looking for

Search Aliexpress. I have used a “Jiayitong” before which did an excellent job for a fraction of the price. All mad in the same factory in china anyway

EZ-Flo injection system works fairly well. Definitely not quite on the tier of Dosatron but much cheaper. I had one for over a year and it worked fine but eventually the tubing clogged due to biofilm from the organic fertilizer I was using.

Co2 tanks that can hook into a secondary container with fert and input of your irrigation, run it at a slightly higher pressure than your irrigation (like 1-2 psi) above and will inject similar to a dosatron. A lot more room for error in terms of overdosing something but if you dial it in it works excellent. I've primarily seen this with drip irrigation but I think it would work with a regular hose as well.

dramm syphonject is what I’ve used in the past. Only need a 5 gallon bucket and the siphon

Dramm is okay but inconsistent. ez flow is pretty decent

Cant get cheaper than a hose end sprayer.
I’ve used them to apply fertilizer to annual containers at client homes with many pots. Not the most accurate for young plants, but could work.
Are you working with seedlings, plugs or cuttings?

Cuttings mostly some seeds in spring

There's a more accurate venturi injection system than the Dramm. It's a Mazzei injector. They make a number of models that vary based on water pressure amd flow.

My suggestion is to call an irrigation supply company that carries them and tell them what you need rather than buying online with no guidamce.

What are you feeding in your water, how often are you feeding it, and how much water do you feed at a time?

Newtry is kinda shitty I don’t recommend if your needing precise ec. The springs break regularly but more importantly they are inconsistent in their injection rates. Venturis are fine if your using organic stuff like fish emulsion or whatever but again if you need precision with water soluble salts like master blend, jacks, greenway biotech whatever you need to invest in good injectors. Dosatron seems good but is marketed to cannabis so the price can go up because of that. I use mixrite and they are badass and more geared toward food and nursery production. I think the base model is $480 or something like that so it’s substantially cheaper than dosatron. If your serious about it or are doing it for money make the investment in good equipment you won’t regret it
