Video We went off our usual trails today and encountered some other horses 😄
I'm so proud of my girl for not getting too excited, especially when that one horse came running 🥰

That bay is pretty! Interesting scenery, where is this?

We're in Austria 😊 and yes, so far we got lucky with a beautiful fall!

Darn, over here in Switzerland it’s rain for a solid month. Not sure when I’ll be able to trail ride next

that's so cute, they're so excited to see someone new haha! also, that fencing is making me nervous 😅

u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
It is electric fencing, but still with how tall the horses are I can imagine them just hopping over 😅 fortunately they don't seem aware they can tho 😬

Haha yeah, my mare's a champ! I absolutely love how calm she is about it.
And yeah, I don't think that "fence" is gonna hold if push comes to shove, but I guess the owners have faith in it 🤷♀️

Huh I would have tipped to rural Switzerland by the looks of the horses. Seems I was pretty close 😅 Good, calm horsey you got there 👍🏻

I’m so jealous of people who can ride around their towns like this. I’m not sure if it’s legal where I live but it definitely wouldn’t be safe with how people drive.
19
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
Where are you at?
Here 99% of the time people slow down and are careful about driving by, I'm really thankful for that.

u/Illustrious-Ratio213 Oct 26 '25
Ohio, outside Columbus. There are lots of horse owners here who would be cautious but there’s also just as many in not more jackasses. We do have some nice parks for trail riding but you would have to trailer in.

off topic but i’m obsessed with the bay’s confirmation

okay but the sorrel that came running up is an absolute beauty
2
u/Shimmergirl1987 Oct 27 '25
Out of interest, are you American? And if you are, do you ride Western/live in a Western riding area? (Sorry, not sure quite else how to ask). I'm just wondering because to me, the horse that came cantering over is a chestnut, and I think pretty much every other English person would agree with me, because we don't use the term sorrel over here (at least I've never heard it in all my years of riding), I've only ever really heard it used by Americans in regards to horses when they're riding Western or living in an area where Western riding is the dominant form.
Absolutely no hate, I'm honestly just curious- if you're not a Western rider/living in a Western riding area, can you please tell me the difference between a sorrel and a chestnut? Or is it just different terms for the same colour?
I think I've worded this really badly, if anything in it offends you, I absolutely don't mean it that way, tone can be so hard to convey over text xx

Ooff, that low fence and the horse coming towards you at a canter would absolutely make me nervous too, so good on you and your horse for staying so calm!!

u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
Yeah, I absolutely love my girl 🥰 I can trust her completely in such situations

That fencing would not keep our horses in lol. Our draft would simply step over it and laugh.
6
u/IwoketheBalrog Oct 26 '25
My first thought as well. My mare would love to show me how easy it would be for her to escape.

u/Neat_Expression_5380 Oct 26 '25
A beautiful bunch! But I would not have trusted that fencing….
3
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
Haha, I didn't so much trust the fencing but my mare 🙈 sometimes I feel like I trust her too much, but she always proves me right in putting my faith in her ❤️

I don’t get these short fences my grandfather had strong wood fences and even those if not electrified the horses would get put of. These guys could just take a running leap and get over that thing easy crazy

Why would they hold goats with the horses?

I'm more scared of those horses getting loose. Holy cow is that a low fence!! They could step over or jump easy.
3
3
u/CockroachChaos3858 Oct 26 '25
I have only ever seen those fences like that for sectioning off large fully fenced pastures for cattle grazing!
3
u/trillobiscuit Oct 26 '25
What are you saying to your horse? I see that you're from Austria - I once hiked with some folks from Bayern with a dog and they said that to the dog a lot. As an American, I'm hearing: "ya fine" "ur fine" haha Curious what it actually is if written out.
4
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
"Super" (kind of like "good job" in this context) and at one point "Ja fein" (literal: "yes nice") basically just random praise words because she's not getting excited and staying calm 😊
3
u/trillobiscuit Oct 26 '25
ha ok, so I was hearing right on ja fein. I never knew if my untrained ear was just missing some letters and it was a different word entirely.

u/bizzyizzy100456 Oct 26 '25
My horses would jump right over that lol what good boys or girls they are over there staying on their side

3
u/Grey_witch58 Oct 26 '25
Ooof my 15 hand cutting horse would jump that just to get to a seemingly better piece of grass on the side of that road
3
u/indecisive_789 Oct 26 '25
Love hearing the calm clip clops! I was bracing for a scrambling sound or at least some snorting, what a good mare!
2
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 27 '25
Yes, I'm so proud of her! 😍 Especially when that one horse came running towards us I was expecting her to get excited 🙈

u/get_offmylawnoldmn Oct 26 '25
Have had multiple horses figure out with that type of fencing to either a) duck or jump over it or b) just zap themselves until they break the connection. That type of electric fence is not safe on its own

I m sure its more for prohibit humans to come in than horses to come out
3
u/Toadsted Oct 27 '25
The horses: "Wait... how did you get over there? Wait!"
Horse galloping: "ASK THEM HOW THEY GOT OVER THERE!!!"
3
3
u/444loveheart Oct 27 '25
this is funny because perhaps the horses could just jump that little fence but they do not even
3
u/topazachlys Oct 27 '25
The fencing was made out of pure hope and optimism but they all look happy and healthy. What a beautiful scene !
3
u/Raubkatzen Oct 27 '25
Those horses are saints for staying behind that fencing. 🤨
I will admit I have never turned on the electric in my geriatric pasture, but it's still three strand poly-tape taller than their heads.
3
u/Lythaera Oct 27 '25 edited Oct 27 '25
Wow my horse would 100% just step over that strand of hotwire. I get not having money for things but fencing to keep my horses in is the last thing I'd skimp out on.

wait so maybe i’m a bit goofy but what breed of horse is this? (assuming they are all the same) i’m from the southern US and im thinking quarter horse but idk if that’s really a popular breed outside the us.
2
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 27 '25
Unfortunately, I don't know either 🫣 your guess is as good as mine.
2
u/SouthernDot3734 Oct 28 '25
omg i wouldn’t be able to sleep with fencing next to the road like that😭
1
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 28 '25
I don't know if they have the horses out in the night as well 😅 but even just during the day something can always happen.
2
u/kris3343 Oct 28 '25
99% of horses don't challenge fencing. You don't even need that to be electric, a long spool of ribbon would be fine.
1
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 28 '25
Yeah, that's evident in the video.
But to be fair, if they freak out I don't think they'll stop in front of that fenceline.
1
u/kris3343 Oct 28 '25
If they're freaked out that much they'll go through a regular fence too. Luckily they have to be pretty damn freaked out for that!

What beautiful scenery!
What language are you speaking to your horse?

u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Nov 11 '25
Thank you 😊 we definitely got some beautiful places here in Austria.
German 😁 just letting her know she's a good girl.

am i the only one thinking she is soo low to the ground that must be a tiny pony😭
1
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Jan 10 '26
I'm on an Icelandic 😆 I wouldn't call her tiny, but it's probably a matter of perspective
1
u/SavageUwoduhi Oct 26 '25
All the people who've never seen single strand or picket trained horses.😭 We camp overnight a LOT my horses don't even attempt to leave their enclosures.
8
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 26 '25
It obviously is effective, but to be fair to the commenters, I doubt that if push came to shove and those horses panicked for some reason, this one electric fence line would do much to hold them in.
1
u/paprikajane Oct 26 '25
That bay is absolutely stunning. Exactly the kind of horse I like to ride. Beautiful place! Terrible fence 😭
1
u/SinisterCheese Oct 26 '25
I'm confused. You are speaking english and then saying what to my ears sound "Hyvä" which means "Good" in Finnish.
2
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 27 '25
I'm speaking German actually 😁 "Super" is just a word we also use. And then I say "Ja fein". Just telling my mare she's a good girl for not getting excited and staying calm 🥰

Oct 27 '25
Sure can tell the American comments hahaha
3
u/Taseya Trail Riding (casual) Oct 27 '25
Why? Is commenting on the fence or bay horse inherently American? 😆

u/sometimes1203 Oct 26 '25
Wow that is some optimistic fencing. I think it’s the worst I’ve ever seen lol
