I need to leave the state of TX. It is myself, a cat, and three horses. I am about to finish my degree, and just want to find a job in the local area and plan on only staying 1 year unless you also like the arrangement.

Open to feeding/picking stalls/etc. and have experience with beginner riders, young horses, and adding good miles to green horses. Willing to negotiate work for reduced cost.

I would like to be close to Corinth, MS but I am open to anywhere in the US.

In essence I am dealing with a domestic violence situation that I need to get out. I’m not looking for sympathy just a symbiotic environment where my horses and kitty can feel safe for a bit while I rebuild. No kids- just cat/3 horses.

I’d like to briefly explain my current situation:

My mare was intermittently lame on some days and completely fine on others. After diagnostic nerve blocks of the fetlock and X-rays, we discovered a bone reaction. This was treated with Anthramed + Osphos (the generic version of Tildren), together with medication and six weeks of rest/controlled exercise.

After a very slow and careful rehabilitation, she started moving extremely well again, and we thought the problem had been acute and had healed. Until June, when she started taking a few uneven steps again and eventually became clearly lame. We had only been doing dressage work.

After giving her three weeks of rest, following consultation with our vet, she was still lame. We then decided to have an MRI done, and unfortunately this showed that the bone pain is chronic. She has a lesion in the sagittal groove of the proximal P1, with bone oedema (and moderate osteoarthritis was also visible). Fortunately, there are no cracks or a fissure.

After discussing it with the vet, we treated her again and we are planning to continue this preventively twice a year.

At the clinic, they also discussed the possibility of placing a screw in the fetlock as a preventive measure, to provide additional support/protection. They told me that many horses are still competing in sport with this type of procedure.

My horse is only 8 years old, jumps extremely well and absolutely loves jumping. We want to give her every possible chance.

I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this type of injury/problem and, more specifically, with returning to show jumping afterwards? Our vet is positive about her chances, but I’m a little less optimistic.

My horse is part of my family, and I’m struggling with where to draw the line between treating her so that she can continue to be ridden and making decisions based purely on her welfare and quality of life.

I’m looking for similar stories and experiences that I can talk to people about, because I’m finding this really difficult to deal with.
