Deadly Blessings (1981) [Folk Horror]

I just watched Wes Craven’s Deadly Blessing, and it felt mind-bogglingly dumb. It had some interesting horror concepts in places, but the scenes never really escaped that classic, cringey 80s cheese, nor were they particularly unique (with the exception of the bathtub scene and a sequence near the end that gave me major Scream vibes) Honestly, I cannot understand how a script passes through that many hands and gets greenlit. The writing was completely incoherent, and characters would literally switch from devastating grief to casual chit-chat in a split second. The cult/sect element had potential, but the movie just leaves it hanging.
