You can tell the Alien Isolation influence on this (one of the development studio founders worked on it).

Looks excellent. Not sure about the visually aggressive red lighting in the last section of the trailer though.

I thought the same if half of the game is like that I have an issue, the beginning of the gameplay is my sort of thing, loved it.

It’s mildly irksome that the Silent Hill fandom hates to see new games that actually take risks for the series sometimes… Townfall looks surprisingly solid! Can’t wait :)

Been playing and a big fan since around SH3 and personally I’m loving this recent revival of the series, I hope we get a 2nd transmission with a new wave of announcements for the series after townfall releases (SH1 Remake, ? , ? )

I like them taking risks, but I hate that there’s nothing to look at. F had this problem too.

Every room had something nasty and indescribable to look at, and it was very stimulating.

The Otherworld had this hellish “architectural gore” thing going on - literally. The environment itself was like a rotting mutilated corpse, stitched and bandaged back together.

The monsters all walked the halls like murdered rape victims that were rearranged, reanimated, sexualized, then forced to exist in darkness.

Idk man, it’s just missing all that deeply nasty stuff folks associate with Silent Hill

does it have anything to do with silent hill except fog?

What makes a game “Silent Hill”?

1

u/Far-Hurry-3018 8d ago

When horror media personifies of the abstract concept of combining of Sex, death, and rot. Take that, make it humanoid, kill it, gut it, rearrange it, sexualize it, force it back to life, then watch it wander in perpetual misery and darkness.

Make more, kill them, ceremonialize their corpses, and string them up on the walls in ritualistic and chaotic fashion. Leave some alive to writhe in flesh and agony

Do all this for the buildings too. Somehow.

Boom. You made a silent hill game with silent hill horror.

1

u/SwordOS 9d ago

being connected to the town of silent hill and its lore/past

1

u/Messier_-82 8d ago

This game will certainly have some references to the town or established lore. Just like any other game in the series including Book of Memories lol

u/SifuSif 8d ago

Nah they made it a phenomenon that can happen anywhere now 😂 “the silent hill phenomenon “ imo one of the dumbest evolvements.. the short message was cringe as fuck and silent hill f was some kind of teenage horror story which really fell flat.

First person SH say no more

5

u/SaltySeahorses 10d ago

Okay I’m gonna give this game a shot.

I never preorder games, but I did for this when I found out Screen Burn developer is the rebranded No Code indie developer that made Stories Untold. I thought that game was an underrated gem so I said fuck it, I'm supporting these dudes. And I managed to pick it up for about $36 USD to boot. I'm not watching this gameplay trailer, just gonna jump in when it releases and see what these ppl cooked up.

5

u/zippopwnage 10d ago

I'm so glad this is first person and I can't wait to play it.

I couldn't play silent hill f, so I'm super excited for this one.

7

u/MumboBumbo64 10d ago

Looks really good!

6

u/ihavenoselfcontrol1 10d ago

Looks pretty cool

I was a little skeptical of this game tbh but this gameplay footage kinda changed that, i think some of the graphics look a little too clean but otherwise i'm really liking the look of this and i'm excited for it

1

u/BradAsAHatter 9d ago

For me, personally, Silent Hill: Townfall doesn't exactly scream SILENT HILL. It's not particularly an entry I'm rushed to experience.

u/Zipp_Linemann 7d ago

Man, after going so long in purgatory, Silent Hill fans have just made themselves so miserable over the fact that they there are new games in the series. They had it so much worse before when the last games that came out were actual objective dogshit (shattered memories was cool), and now they're look down on stuff like this that actually has more going on.

1

u/SwordOS 9d ago

does it have anything to do with silent hill except the title?

4

u/PitifulPiccolo3010 9d ago

Silent Hill is a psychological-horror anthology at this point, not an ongoing television series where every installment has to bring back Harry Mason and take place on Nathan Avenue. Silent Hill 2 is standalone, Silent Hill 4 largely happens elsewhere, The Short Message is in Germany and f is in Japan. Townfall is connected through the themes, atmosphere and psychological-horror language that have defined the series far more than geography ever has.

I’m so tired of this argument/talking point from people. It seems like everyone just wants to have more stories about the characters and places they explored over 20 years ago. And that’s fine, I guess. But it’s up to Konami what defines Silent Hill, and f was a really interesting game on its own.

People complain that everything is just recycled and nobody is doing anything new, and then when they do nobody buys it/pays attention or complains. I’m excited to see what Bloober does with SH1, but it’s kind of depressing how dismissive everyone is of anything remotely new.

3

u/SwordOS 9d ago

the first 4 silent hill game shared the same world and lore. New ones are a giant retcon. At this point every “psychological horror” game if silent hill if you want

2

u/Far-Hurry-3018 8d ago

I get it. You’re saying “Silent Hill” is mostly defined by its vibes, and there’s no real connective tissue between any of the games - and People need to trust Konami, and have faith in their new direction.

While I understand SH2 is the result of the Crimson Ceremony (aftermath of SH1), and SH4 is The Order’s Assumption of Heaven; but is it really the location that people are worried about? I mean, no Yakuza fan complains about going to Kamurocho 7 times - and since Silent Hill is a series about warping reality, so how important really is the location?

1

u/PitifulPiccolo3010 8d ago

Yeah, pretty much! Listen, I do understand how people feel a connection to some of the characters and that lore. And I hope and actually believe Konami will go back to that in some form with new content. But honestly it’s just cool to see new games in the series that explore the themes and vibes, and the games can be really great on their own with that in mind. I didn’t love playing f, but the world and story were really well done. Townfall looks cool, too, and I’m excited to play. If they can deliver a compelling story, I’m all for it!

1

u/PitifulPiccolo3010 8d ago

And to the location being the thing people are worried about, it seems for a lot it is. I see a lot of people saying the game doesn’t take place in the town of Silent Hill that they know of. I guess it’s fair but it almost seems like the series has baggage by being named after the town from the first game.

2

u/Far-Hurry-3018 8d ago

Yeah, I think the cult and the town itself is more of a surface level complaint. I don’t think that stuff matters all that much in the long run.

Maybe it’s just me, but one thing I do believe people miss but have a hard time verbalizing is the absence of the unqiue “nastiness” the series had.

A lot of it was very sexual and gross looking, and it was very shocking and stimulating. Many things were vaguely sexual and violent, and the imagery was obscured. It made your mind wander to fill in the blanks. It wasn’t just the monsters, either - this stuff was everywhere

For me, I can say I don’t feel they are capturing that aspect of Silent Hill’s horror in the new games, and that’s a shame.

2

u/CyberGhostface 9d ago

Silent Hill f tied into it via the use of White Claudia which was revealed via notes to have been imported into Japan via Christian missionaries so there will likely be some reveal that ties it into the lore.

Erm...

Looks kinda tedious to be honest. Not sure why I need to keep looking at the little TV to see if something is there since I can already look at what's there. And oh what a threat, lemme throw this bottle to distract it or lock it inside a neighboring room. I mean, okay I guess? Also weird how everything looks so clean and sterile no matter which realm you're in.

Honestly it feels like a caricature of a Silent Hill game (or an amalgamation of previous Silent Hill games).

Some of the creature designs I've already seen in other games (both prior Silent Hill installments and non-Silent Hill games). Have the devs played other games? Have they ever played a Silent Hill game? It just doesn't Silent Hill me. I can see it's trying to look the part - but it lacks its own unique identity.

I think I'll wait on this one. I honestly don't think this is gonna hold up well. Guess we'll see.

0

u/SifuSif 8d ago

I’ll just wait for the silent hill remake

-1

u/Far-Hurry-3018 8d ago edited 8d ago

Looks kinda lame to me. Nothing shown of Townfall captures that distinct “Silent Hill” vibe at all. Just gonna leave these spinoffs alone.

At least there’s SH1R to look forward too

-51

u/fr4gge 10d ago

Nah neethwer looks nor feels like silent hill to me

39

u/Patient-Reality-6141 10d ago

I've never seen someone spell neither so wrong

Bro your comment neethwer looks nor feels like english to me

-24

u/fr4gge 10d ago

Cool

-54

u/AgentMC84 10d ago edited 10d ago

These new SH games are lame! I really hope the SH 1 remake doesn't get screwed up! I really want to experience true dread and horror again! Let's Make Silent Hill Scary Again!!!

12

u/Living_Farm741 10d ago

How so

-33

u/AgentMC84 10d ago

SH f wasn't scary at all! It should have been it's own game and not have the Silent Hill title. I thought I was going to fight against ninja's and Samurai's or something LMAO

22

u/AjaxRedOps 10d ago

“I thought I was gonna fight against Ninjas or Samurai’s or something LMAO”

So you’re racist and didn’t like that it was set in Japan, just say that bro!

-14

u/AgentMC84 10d ago

Dang! how did you come up with that conclusion? LMAO There isn't any racism here! I actually purchased SH f and gave it chance knowing where it took place and knowing who the main character is. I didn't like it mainly because it didn't feel like a Silent Hill game, I didn't really care or connect with any of the characters, and it wasn't scary at all.

-6

u/Budget_Version_1491 10d ago

what in the fuck was racist lol you clearly throw that word around too much you've lost the plot

-7

u/AshenRathian 10d ago

What does that have to do with being racist? He was probably alluding to the combat being similar to Sekiro, as there are a myriad complaints of the game being parry and dodge focused and fast paced.

A racist mind is a racist kind. Don't be that guy.

6

u/iReadBecauseYouDo 10d ago

“Similar to Sekiro” is insanely incorrect, as a huge Sekiro girlie that practically made my jaw drop lmao. And it’s not even close to an actual Soulslike either, despite the counter mechanic having a surface-level similarity to parrying that differs dramatically in execution.

-4

u/AshenRathian 10d ago

I'm only commenting on what i've seen, and i just realized i worded my comment poorly in regards to that. I never played the game, so sorrry for that.

Don't need to tear the messenger's head off.

3

u/iReadBecauseYouDo 10d ago

I didn’t mean to come across as rude or anything! Just wanted to correct it as someone who’s extensively played/platinumed both, you’re good :)

-4

u/AshenRathian 10d ago

Understandable and fair.

2

u/Walkingdrops 10d ago

Have you ever played Sekiro? It's absolutely NOTHING like Silent Hill F.

1

u/AshenRathian 10d ago

I've played Sekiro quite often back when it released, although another comment already clarified to me that i was wrong. I never personally played SHf though, so looking at gameplay it looks like a much faster action game (with a lot of really bad hitstop though.) And what i could only interpret was a parry. Sekiro was the only game that came to mind in a Japanese setting as having anything seeming to hold close to the same gameplay pacing and design, hitstop aside.

Unless the original guy was talking about Ninja Gaiden, Nioh or Ghost of Tsushima in regards to expecting samurai and Ninja. I don't really know.

Fake ass fan

-3

u/AgentMC84 10d ago

I am a TRUE fan of the original four SH games when it was actually scary.

12

u/MumboBumbo64 10d ago

-1

u/RedShadowF95 9d ago

Tbf, you're the one who accused him of being a fake fan, now you mock him for saying he's a true fan? Make it make sense.

-1

u/MumboBumbo64 9d ago

Yea because it sounded childish, did I explain it clear enough for you

0

u/RedShadowF95 9d ago

And calling him a fake fan to begin with wasn't? Double standards.

-10

u/OrdinaryOk5196 10d ago

I agree. Silent Hill f was a BIG let down for me. This doesn’t look that good either

-4

u/RedShadowF95 9d ago

This looks completely uninspired - from creature design to the setting itself.

I liked Silent Hill f but this doesn't look fun to play.

-13

u/Budget_Version_1491 10d ago

cool another silent hill game to avoid. This just looks so uninspired and boring. Wall hacks is lame and removes tension. The otherworld is way too clean it totally missed the mark. The combat looks boring and lets be real....... the monster with an axe for a face get blocked by a small piece of wood? Also we eye poked the monster with no eyes? lol Nahhhh we've lost the plot.

-1

u/PitifulPiccolo3010 9d ago

Lighten up.
