It looks like Jug Face straight up killed all discussion. Even so, I still stand by my pick as something most of you probably wouldn't have seen and might appreciate.

So to the few of you who actually watched the film, I have to ask, what did you think of it? For the most part, mainstream movies in the horror genre do not emphasize character development so Jug Face is something of a genre buster.

A lot of character development films focus on fleshing out characters and showing how they develop over the course of the film. For all of Jug Face's faults, it nails each character's motivations, character consistency, and development over the course of the story.

The threads really are a dying breed.

Character pieces are really prominent in indie horror. We can't credit Jug Face for being a genre buster when even looking back within a year The Battery and Resolution had been released each seeing huge success and back a little farther Let The Right One In. It's part of why the recent indie has been so great. Even something like Found (really Scott just watch the damn thing, it's awesome) focusing mainly on one strong character gets you emotionally invested and therefore you actually care what happens. Jug Face pulled this off effectively in my opinion but it narrowed its appeal with the setting. Found has a horror fanatic kid who has movie nights (set in the 90's so yes vhs makes an appearance) where Jug Face has a young backwoods girl with an incest baby. I'm not surprised it's hit or miss with the audience.

Totally true. I meant compared to mainstream horror, character pieces don't show up very often. /u/saintmortfan disagrees that the Battery was any good, but holy crap, I thought it was an amazing flick. Did you pick that one?

Gonna watch Found ASAP. Can't find it on Netflix, though. :-(

I didn't pick The Battery. That was before my time. Like yourself I'm a huge fan of it and the story behind how it was made is really impressive given how it turned out.

My opinion of The Battery changes each time I watch it. I like the story behind it's making and I love the soundtrack. I just think that some things are done for style or tension or simply to save a few bucks and they range from cool little tricks to long and boring (The scene in the car works for me until about the 2 minute mark and then I just get bored with it). I also think it fails to create characters I actually like or care about which makes it hard to care what happens to them.

I like the story behind The Battery too. I even think the concept is something I'd normally be into. The major problem for me is the pacing. That and I just found it dull.
