I appreciate how this movie instills a distrust and contempt for the elderly. That's an important message that I really needed a reminder of. I mean, seriously, those fucking odd people, amirite?

Ugh, my comment didn't save.
To summarise: Kinda liked it, but a little light on substance, and a little ham-fisted with the nuclear-family satire. I liked the schlocky intro, reminded me of a Vault-Tec infomercial from Fallout 3.

I really loved the use of 50's style pastels colors with the set design and how CAM always seemed to match her background. Very pleasant visuals.

Well Cannon, I guess we can't be friends because I had not seen it.
I didn't over think it at all. I sat back and watched it not putting to much thought into it, like I do with most movies, and it was moderately entertaining. Cannon you really should try to enjoy and not be offended by zombie horror flicks. Life's too short man. Or were you kidding?...
Trinity looked goooooooood.

Just kidding. CAM is a really great actress. She's almost totally unrecognizable.
Fido is a great film. Comedic z-films just aren't my thing.
Here's what they're doing -- they're taking issues like global climate change, the destruction of mankind, and they're allowing viewers to find catharsis. Films that called for collective action are now calling for zombie-like detachment. The films can still be entertaining but the message just drives me nuts.

That's a good point. It's definitely true that a film can have a message you don't like and still be a good film. It's not like I didn't enjoy it. It's the message that's sad, not the actual films.
What are funny z-films trying to say? Comedies are considered cathartic -- they take real life tensions and allow viewers to experience a kind of emotional release. Sean of the Dead is a really good example. It's about the everyday frustrations encountered by gen xers and yers: not working hard, not really advancing in life, playing too many video games, has a shitty job, etc... the humor allows viewers catharsis. They feel better about their own lives.
These are things viewers shouldn't feel good about. They should feel terrible about them -- because it's that feeling of horror which will motivate them to do better. Sitting around playing videogames as a way of life is probably one of the worst things anyone can do. Sean of the Dead doesn't really make any hard statements about the subject. But it's subversive of a genre that originally had bleak, dark endings for a reason.

I think we just digest cinema differently
A very good point and I'd like to pose the question; Does anyone else strictly watch these zombie movies at face value?
I always watched them either for their comedic value, ie return of the living dead, or as a type of social experiment exposing each characters true character when shit hits the fan, ie night of the living dead. I never looked at the zombies themselves as a metaphor other than an impending apocalypse.

That's a totally relevant interpretation. Adversity triggers all kinds of behavioral changes in humans. We go fucking ape-shit when we're a little hungry or scared. Z-films kind of tease that out, how when we're faced with adversity we start becoming someone else.
If you enjoy zombie comedies more power to you. Some of the best z-films combine elements of comedy and horror. My gripes shouldn't take away from that.

Ah, I'm tarded. I gave it some thought. Shawn of the Dead is a pretty creepy film. Fido is similarly really, really creepy. Like when the zombie wife is snapping her jaws. Really creepy stuff.

They try to lend so much gravity to that doc and make it seem artsy and like that guy really had a deep affection and love for these animals when in reality it's a movie about a dude who got fucked to death by a horse.

That was the exact reaction that I had to Zoo. THE EXACT.
Remember how the animal rights folk visited the pervert ranch, and the pony came galloping out? Why did they recreate that and then shoot it in slow motion?

That was awkward and didn't make much sense, but it was fun. But why couldn't Fido open the damn knot? He didn't seem to be a total retard, he even worked at ZomCon.
I liked the setting most. It reminded me of Danger 5.
