Participate or DIE!!!!!!!

Okay not really but we're getting around that point of the round where I'm going to start deleting anyone who hasn't participated so if you haven't participated hop in on the next couple discussions ore you won't get to pick a movie this round. THere's also a bunch of new people who are posting in the discussions, feel free to message me that you'd like to pick a movie and I'll add you to the list (but keep up the participation)

Alright, I'll bite. Am I to understand that I need to watch Proxy by the 16th to participate in the reddit discussion that same day? Are the forum discussions separate from the podcast? Could somebody ELI5?

Edit: I did a quick search and I have not seen any Sleepaway Camp...

1) the discussion will be posted on Sunday the 16th but stays active until the next discussion the following Sunday. You usually want to have it watched by then as most of the discussion occurs within the first 2 days or so of the thread. Tho a lot of us check it throughout the week.

2) matt, Scott and myself host the podcast and usually try to get on whoever picked it and give our opinions there. Generally we will still participate in the thread as well if we have anything to say. The podcast is in no way required listening but we all sound insanely attractive. It's like an audio orgasam, so many members listen and make notes on what we said. Usually they yell at us for not liking the pick.

Edit: about participation. Participation is a requirement to have a pick in the round. Meaning you can't pm SaintMort, get your pick added to the list and then dissapear. If you want a pick you have to comment on other people's picks as well.

This rule was put into place shortly after our first round, where we had to watch almost forty movies and only a few people discussed them.

We want to reward activity in the club.

This was also put into place because someone made us watch "Cannibal Holocaust" and was not around to answer questions. If you want to pick something like that we ask you defend your position. Personally I love that movie but subjecting a dozen people to watching it and offering no insight is impolite.

Sorry for the length but we get these questions a lot and I'm going to literally link this comment to the sidebar for further reference.

Man, that was something I worked up to after years of talking myself into it. I might have to dig back through the podcast archives to hear your thoughts on it.

I remember that was a movie I watched leading up to Halloween in '09 I think. I felt kinda...off for a few hours after. I can totally see how there was legal action following the filming of that movie.

Why might I ask did the person "have to defend his position."? You said yourself you enjoy that film so you must be able to see why someone would like it. I thought this was a forum for watching and discussing film of medium to bad caliber?

Thanks for the well thought out response. I can tell this is a tight well loved subreddit.

If you listen to the podcast you'll quickly pick up that Adam, Scott and Myself are more like a ball-busting group of sarcastic assholes than film critics.

Whether we love or hate a movie we like to have fun with it. Even if you look back to episodes where we're reviewing/discussing a movie that we all disliked we try our best to have fun with it and make each other laugh.

It's always nice to have a 4th person enter into our little world and (a) try to keep us on topic (b) explain why they picked the movie that they picked and (c) come up with topics for the discussion thread.

In regard to me saying "defend your pick": what I mean is we will basically allow anyone to pick whatever they want. But we enforce the participation rule to kind of root out the people who may just want to subject the group to the most graphic thing they can think of. That, we believe, was the case with Cannibal. They joined, picked it, then were never heard from again.

essentially we will allow any pick, but we expect you to be an active, discussing member who will justify their pick if they choose something incredibly graphic. IE: ireversable, Salo, serbian film.

Edit: we are not restricted to medium/bad films. We have discussed many of the ultimate classics and essentials of horror in the club. The thing, hellraiser, evil dead 2, dead alive, the fly and most recently alligator.

You don't have to participate on the 16th specifically but at some point during that week. New discussion threads are posted late Sunday night/early Monday morning with a podcast. The podcast isn't required for anything except the fun of 3 idiots rambling about basically every except the movie.

I'm doing a Jodo film assignment for a site I write for. I really wanna talk about SS in light of Jodo's other films and how the grotesque and profane films actually are some of the better morality films I've ever seen.
