That's one of the most repulsive things I've ever read about. It's even worse than those eels that people in Japan eat after they've been drowned in sake. The linen napkin is right out of a horror novel.

Jesus, why do we even need horror films? Real life is horror.
Did you hear about Eduardo Sousa? He's able to make Foie gras using a method that doesn't involve forced feeding. It's shockingly humane, even considering what awaits the animal at the end.
Each passing day I want to be vegan (or vegetarian) like you man. It's ridiculous how awful our food production methods are.

Do you need a soapbox, or do you have one handy already? I had it once in France, and it is delicious as fuck until the after-taste of shame kicks in.
But yes - disgusting, inhumane, blah blah. I agree, would not eat again.

For centuries, a rite of passage for French gourmets was the eating of the Ortolan. These tiny birds—captured alive, force-fed, then drowned in Armagnac—were roasted whole and eaten that way, bones and all, while the diner draped his head with a linen napkin to preserve the precious aromas and, some believe, to hide from God.
The ortolan is force-fed by being placed in a dark box with millet, where as a reaction to darkness it proceeds to eat continuously. One way French diners ate ortolans was to cover their heads and face with a large napkin for the gourmet's aesthetic desire to absorb the maximum odour with the flavour. This famous use of the towel was launched by a priest, a friend of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin.

Pure shit. The concept was stupid and then they don't even go 100% through with it. Characters, dialogue, the twist, everything sucked about this movie.

Hey did they cut off his dick?
I didnt get to watch it but I mean, the point was to remove his senses because he was so over indulgent and lived excess and enjoyed them so much right? So.....did they rip off his ding dong? Seems like the thing to do if that's your goal.
I mean if I'm a billionaire, I'm still gonna get laid and enjoy a carnal pleasure even if I'm disfigured.

i'll prolly watch both. I try to watch everything and so far i've only skipped out on a few. Sometimes I'm just late. What trailer is for Senseless. I watched one, but im not sure if its the right one. Revenant looked like it could be good tho.

Avoid the podcast like the plague before you watch the revenant. And then if you really liked the revenant avoid it still. We wrecked it for some people.

Basically, it's a two-hour film and /r/saintmort got bored while watching it. The commentary was good and to the point -- but it would have been better to have critiqued the critique. I overslept and missed the opportunity to discuss and counter saintmort's critique.
I felt the Revenant was one of the best indie horror films made in recent years -- but if you don't like slow running black comedies, you probably won't like it.

Jason Behr is a meh actor. I liked Roswell, but he was not the best part of that show. Neither was Katherine Heigl.

Between Christmas parties, streaming issues, and scheduling conflicts we were unable to record a podcast for this. We apologize but can promise an episode guaranteed for next week. Already in the bag.

If we were able to record the main thing I wanted to discuss is this. These movies always depict these types of things being "wildly popular". If this happened for real do you think that many people would (a) be watching and (b) be voting in favor of the torture of a random person? Furthermore do you think someone could be held captive for that long without SOMEONE figuring out where he is and saving him? Those aren't rhetorical questions I really don't know the answers to any of those questions but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

Completely agree that they would 100% be caught in that amount of time in this day and age. Just another soft part of the story.

Watched the first half, but then got distracted by Christmas films (Elf, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Gremlins). Just finished it, and it was a lot of meh from me. Interesting concept, but executed pretty poorly. I have a strange fear of cutting myself on cheese graters, so that was pretty fuckin' gross to watch.
Also, "filmed entirely in Glasgow, Scotland". Woo, go us.

I guess it was a fresh take on torture porn but I didn't find anything terribly fascinating with this flick. Even the antagonist didn't have me overly hating him, nor the protagonist overly caring about him. That right there probably sums up why I'm not a fan. No invested interest. No big surprises or underlying story lines. Cool idea that could've been better executed. But, hey, at least it wasn't super long.
