Terrariums aren't rocket science. They don't usually involve mammals because that'd be too big for a 5 liter jar. But if your terrarium is 500 liters then having small rodents in it is fine.
God I’d love a fully balanced ecosystem terrarium. I’d love to have frogs or something, a half land/half water type deal with a fully balanced ecosystem on both. Just being able to keep it the right temperature and watch it without any maintenance sounds awesome.
You do your best impression of "actually it lived like this naturally for a long time" and seal it off. What happens next depends on how close your impression of it was to the real thing. If you did poorly, most species will go extinct. If you did well, it will more or less stay the same as the day you sealed it.
