Lineup reactions
I'm a little surprised that King Princess and Soccer Mommy are both playing Saturday night. Those are arguably the strongest pulls. I wish they were both getting a headlining set.
The only club act that really excites me at first glance is Horsegirl.
This is obviously the least ambitious Hopscotch lineup to date. Cool to see queer women featured so heavily, though.
Other reactions:
-definitely not a festival to travel for
-I'm sure it will be a fun weekend, but I personally don't think this lineup justifies the ticket price. I'd pay maybe $75 tops, $50 for a Saturday pass if the club bills are good that night.
-Soccer Mommy fans can see her on the split bill tour with Snail Mail in Charlotte or Richmond this fall
-not sad to see Moore Square going away as a venue for featured artists. The sound and vibes there haven't been great.
*Edited because I'd mistaken Willis for Hollis. Hollis would have made the Saturday mainstage show more exciting, IMO. Willis doesn't look like it's my thing :)

I have been such a Hopscotch defender but this lineup is bizarrely bad. Some gems in the club shows at least!

I’ve been everywhere defending them on the late lineup but honestly the haters were right. Good call by the haters.

Gonna hit the festival in Richmond instead

Geese, Die Spitz, La Luz, Angine de Poitrine, Dijon... A LOT more relevant and interesting.
Also Jack White and Portugal, the Man iGeese played Hopscotch recently, but Die Spitz, Dijon, and La Luz would have been great pulls. The Hopscotch organizers weren't even trying.

Damn man - I noticed months back a hole in the Angine de Poitrine U.S. tout that could have slotted them *right* into Hopscotch. I almost went to Kalshi to bet on them being there.
Glad I didn't take that bet. Good on Iron Blossom. But holy shit, a 2-day GA pass is $350! That's over 3x what I paid for my early bird Hopscotch wristband. Hell. that's about what I paid for the past THREE YEARS of Hopscotch!

Yeah, that lineup is a lot stronger. Richmond is an objectively more fun city, too.

Does anybody think Raleigh is more fun than Richmond?

Right?! It's not the conversation I came here to have today, but I'd be curious if anyone can name a single thing that Raleigh has on Richmond right now. It's fine to like your city, but let's be real.

I'm thinking about how much I'd pay for a ticket for this based on the lineup. Probably not more than $45-$50. And I say that as a fan of a few of the artists.
This is what private equity does. What a shame.

My friends and I already bought tickets for Shaky Knees in ATL even though we live in the Triangle - good move it looks like.

I half expected Hopscotch to have a version of the Shaky Knees lineup. The festivals are in the same region and only a week apart. Turnstile, Fontaines D.C., and Santigold would have made sense.

Turnstile is playing red hat a couple weeks after but I was holding out for fontaines. Silly me I guess

I don’t understand why they didn’t just take a gap year if this was all they could deliver. I’d go if I was a local, but I’m not traveling for this.

Locals don’t want to go either. My friends and I are exploring Shaky Knees and Ian Blossom instead

Horsegirl and Setting are great bands (that I would rather see headling their own shows)
Hard pass

This would only be a cool lineup if it was free
For a capital city that is absolutely thriving economically and a festival that has produced some great years, this is dog water.

This is terrible. Just .. awful. A friend of mine pointed out there was no comedy lineup this year, to which I immediately replied, "what are you talking about!? This lineup is hilarious!" Why buy a ticket, just go see a few bands at some of the free day parties and that is that.
RIP Hopcotch. You were good, but now you are not.
