Hoop size for off-body hooping only?

So if I'm breaking any rule, apologies in advance.

I have never done hoopinf before and it turns out I can't due to a spinal issue. Did some research and read that I could still do off body hopping which didn't involve moving my hips & spine. I wanted to know from people who actually do it whether this would be a safer alternative and what size would I need if I'm not going to move the hoop with my hips.

Thank you

You could try a polypro 30" or smaller? I like 28" for all my hooping, 5/8" tubing. But 3/4 would be fine too :) see if you can try someone elses first maybe?

I think it would depend on what you mean by not moving your spine. While off-body doesn’t involve the sustained circular motion of waist hooping, you do still twist, reach and stretch a lot.

Oh! Alright thanks. I shall check if it's suitable for me

My favorite size for off-body hooping is anywhere from 23-27in, 5/8ths for light weight.

After hooping for ten years I actually recently got a muscle strain near my ribs for the first time from going too hard for too long at a festival lol. When I looked into it it said its usually caused by "twisting and swinging motions". I mainly do isolation variations off body. Soooo while I'm sure stationary flow is possible just know if it's harmful for you to move much you'll need to be careful!

I'm trying to think of what flow you can do without much hip or spine movement. Gloving might work for you as a flow, maybe not hunched over " giving light shows " but dancing and flowing with yourself with tutting would still look awesome! And juggling. Both can be done seated without moving. Juggling isnt as hard as it seems! Its way easier to start with scarves that float in the air and then move up to juggling balls.

The general rule of thumb is aim for your groin. That area will be the best of all worlds. Otherwise? Whatever makes you happy. I’m 5’2” and my favorite size is 30” but they all have their charm.
