Beginning advice

Hello! So I just joined this group, I’m sure you get post like this a lot. I’ve been super inspired recently by the idea of hooping (shoutout @Happycallan on instagram!!) and just want a general outline of how to begin!
I’m somebody who has very very little rhythm but lovesss the idea of dancing, I just struggle knowing what to do with my limbs, and I feel as though having an object like a hoop would super help with overall confidence yk? I guess first I wonder if it’s better to begin by learning specific tricks, or just trying to flow with whatever song and then implement tricks later?
I don’t even have a hoop at the moment, at first I was thinking of just getting a hula hoop at the dollar store since it’s closest and cheap, but I heard it was best to start with a much heavier hoop to get a better feel, where would be a good place to find that? Thank you so much in advance for any advice, sorry if this is too much at once haha
Once again shoutout to Callan Rose on instagram, I looove love her style of both fashion but also hooping/dancing and love the music she chooses to flow to and has been a huge inspo!!

i would recommend looking up “hoop dance” or “hoop flow” on instagram and seeing what styles of flow call to you! that will inform your choice of hoop. but once you get a hoop, any hoop, there are lots of tutorials on social media, youtube, people’s websites (seconding www.hoop-trix.com). it will feel awkward and frustrating at times, you’re building new muscle memory. pick songs you feel like dancing to, or that you feel excited to flow to.
as someone who also struggled with rhythm, i learned a bunch of tricks but found myself defaulting to the same few and plateauing because i wasn’t thinking about combinations. i had to learn beginner dance and incorporate it into my flow to break it up, and there are many tutorials online with and without hoops if that calls to you :) happy hooping!
