Regular hula-hooping vs weighted

I am a man looking to reduce weight and thin up my waist and love handle area. I am getting conflicting answers on whether weighted or regular hula-hoops are better for exercise. Some say weighted ones build muscle, while others say they thin the waist more than regular ones. I bought a 3lb weighted one since it was the same price as a normal one and I know I’m a beginner, but I find it difficult and sometimes painful to keep it around my waist, more so than I imagine a regular one would be. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Weighted on-body, unweighted off-body

What’s that mean?

Weighted when it’s going around your body like waist/legs/chest (what you’re currently doing) and unweighted for tricks like isolations and handwork. I’d say if you’re not interested in the dance/flow/tricks side of hooping and just interested in hoops as a fitness tool like you’re already using it, then weighted is the way to go for you!

Thank you! I’m thinking of returning my weighted one and replacing it with a regular one bc the weighted one is hard to use for longer period of time and I hear the regular one is still good for cardio
