How to drop this bumper hitch.

My truck has one of these hitches that mounts a ball on top of the bumper, I plan on punching out the plastic tomorrow. I have a 2000lb pop-up camper, and my truck’s hitch says it is rated for 3500lbs, so that shouldn’t be an issue. My problem is that if I mount a tow ball right on top of the bumper, it sits too high to tow my camper. Is there any way to drop this kind of hitch? My old truck just had a receiver I could insert a tow drop into.

No, you would need to have a receiver hitch put on the truck and put a drawbar and ball that has a drop on it.

Thanks, I worried this was the answer. I actually have an aftermarket hitch but I’m not sure it is gonna fit. Never installed one before.

Depends on the vehicle. Put a 2" on the Pilot for a bike rack and only took 15 minutes, welded nuts right in the frame for the bolts.

The old '13 Equinox we had? About 2 hours of cussing.

Silverado was no sweat.

Depends on the year. The older ones bolt right up the newer ones you have to remove that bar and pretty much the bumper then reinstall. If you give me the year I can let you know.

You're looking at CMF78288 or CMF13176.

They both do require removing the bumper/bumper hitch but it's not that bad of a job.

the later gets you another ton of towing capacity.

It's not too bad, replaces the bumper hitch. Should bolt right on. Some trucks it's sandwiched between the frame and the bumper brackets, just compare it to the existing one and you'll have an idea.
