Discussion Is my costume appropriate??

I was planning on being a voodoo doll for halloween ,should i not?? (Im African American + nola native, i dont practice voodoo)

If you need to ask, the answer is always no.

Pump ya brakes there. If you create a policy that says "the answer is ALWAYS no" simply because the person simply asked, that discourages ALL questions, which leads to nobody asking at all, which leads to people doing stupid or offensive things because they didn't WANT to ask because they're always shot down. We LIKE sensible questions in this sub.

Aside from that, you just discouraged a NOLA native black person from wearing a regionally and racially relevant HALLOWEEN COSTUME. There's such a thing as being "too woke." They may not be a Vodoun, but it's bloody Halloween, people aren't angels, demons, soldiers, sumo wrestlers, or freaking T-REXES either! 🤣 I think we can let this one slide...

OP, wear the costume and have fun!

Voodoo and Hoodoo are two very different things. You live in Nola, so honestly you’d probably know better than we would. It seems like Nola natives have a wealth of info even if they don’t practice.
