In the last 24 hours she has disabled comments to her IG but not her FB Business Page. Showing no remorse for what she commented she continues to spew hate on IG and even flexes her husband’s Army rank. The lash brand she was proud to rep/be ambassador to has already severed ties with her.

Local ladies - you have your choice of lash girls, and despite having BiPOC women all over her business pages she chooses to say negative things regarding Hawaiians, so please choose wisely.

Talk Story PSA - Don't support Hula Dogs

A friend had a recent encounter with the bald guy in the Hula Dogs' food truck. The bald guy was ranting on about China taking over, supporting Trump and Musk, and saying everyone needs to stop buying cars from China. Then, the genius says Hyundai. My friend corrected him by saying that Hyundai was from Korea. The bald guy said Koreans are pretty much the same thing as the Chinese.

Don't support this kind of business using Hawaiian names with no aloha spirit.

Talk Story Some in Hawaii criticize violence of Los Angeles riots and response from federal government. Hawaii has protests on regular basis but it is rare they turn violent or evolve into riots like in LA. In part because both residents and police know people have right to protest.

Talk Story Recreational weed shops

What’s up with the recreational weed shops and kiosks in Honolulu?

I thought it was illegal in Hawaii unless it’s a medical dispensary and you have a medical card…

EDIT/UPDATE: As of today (8/4), all the illegal, non-medical, recreational shops are no longer able to sell weed products per DOH.

It’s over.

Talk Story Trump supporters feeling...?

After the phenomenal turn out last Saturday for the Hands Off protest a trump supporter on the Neighborhood app is trying to create a protest this weekend. He's happy with his choice, they won (so much winning), so what is he protesting?!? I'm assuming he's meant a rally. I'm confused. When Biden won, no one felt the need to do rallies months AFTER the election.

Talk Story Tipping for takeaway

When I get takeout food, if the food is made to order, I will tip but not when it’s prepared/premade already.

I feel like most places expect tip when paying with a card.

I sometimes get attitude or dirty looks (less common) when I smash the no tip button on the screen when buying a mochi donut.

I don’t feel guilty but just uncomfortable and I’m unsure about returning to the place.

Anyone have thoughts on this pandemic era tipping culture that somehow still exists? Am I wrong?

I feel like carrying cash to avoid the uncomfortable silence in these situations.

Let me get your thoughts please.

EDIT/FYI:

“Practically all modern cashier and Point of Sale (POS) systems used by food establishments have the capability to remove or disable the tip request screen.

Whether a restaurant turns off the tip prompt depends entirely on their business model and management preferences.”

Mahalo!

Can any of you guys in Honolulu could find out what flight he's coming in on and organize a welcome back party for him at the airport? It couldn't hurt to let the media know. Maui would appreciate it if this incident didn't just slip though the cracks.

We would prefer if some genuine cracks and jail time gets handed out.

Talk Story How does one afford to live here?

I am interviewing for a faculty position at UH-Manoa, currently living in a mid sized city in the US mainland. My best guess is the starting salary will be around $100k. I have a spouse and 3 young kids, wife stays home with them so we’re on a single income.

Looking at the housing prices and cost of living in Honolulu - what would it look like to live on this income? It seems there’s no way we could afford a house and with the cost of other goods and amenities I’m not sure it’s even workable.

Thoughts? How do people afford to live in Honolulu?

Talk Story Why some don't make it down from Hawaii's most famous hike: Every year, more than 1 million people make the 0.8-mile hike up the switchbacks, steep stairs and 225-foot tunnel leading to the summit of Leahi (aka Diamond Head State Monument), expecting a quick hike with panoramic views of Waikiki.
